How to Analyze Wuthering Heights from the Stylistic Perspective
Wuthering Heights by emily bronte is regarded as one of the greatest works of the Victorian era. It is a masterpiece that can reflect Shakespeare's great plays and has permanent artistic charm. Wuthering Heights has attracted the attention of many critics with its rich themes and unique perspectives since its publication more than one hundred years ago. Critics have discussed the theme, characters, structure, feminism and modernism of Wuthering Heights from the perspectives of sociology, psychology, ethics and religion. But so far, there is no monograph to systematically study the style of this novel from the perspective of stylistics. Based on this, this paper analyzes some representative stylistic styles in the novel from a new perspective of stylistics. Stylistics focuses on how the author expresses and strengthens the theme meaning and aesthetic effect through the choice of language. Through the description and analysis of the perspective, language components and specific stylistic effects chosen by the author, it provides an objective basis for excavating the aesthetic value of the text, so that we can better understand and appreciate the meaning and artistic value of the text. At the same time, this paper makes a new attempt to expand the stylistic analysis method of the text, thus proving that the development of pragmatics provides a brand-new analytical theory and method for the stylistic analysis of novels, and also provides a new basis for us to understand and appreciate literary texts. This paper consists of introduction, theory and conclusion. The introduction comprehensively summarizes the current situation of the criticism on Wuthering Heights, especially on the narrative style and language style of the novel. The structural layout of the paper is also explained. The first chapter focuses on the novel's unique perspective and its specific stylistic effects. The article points out that the use of multiple narrative perspectives in the novel, especially the use of multiple perspectives, makes this classic literary work closer to the modern art of the twentieth century and plays a special role in the story told in the novel. The author also puts Lockwood, the narrator who has been neglected by critics for a long time, in the same important position as Nelly, the main narrator of the novel, and analyzes his narrative perspective and its specific stylistic significance in the novel in detail. The second chapter analyzes the outstanding language style of the novel.
