Scientists in China took the lead in preparing lead-carbon batteries from rice husk?
It was learned from Jilin University that Lin Haibo's team from the School of Chemistry of Jilin University took the lead in preparing high-performance battery-grade carbon materials from rice husk in the world, and used this material to develop lead-carbon batteries with high cost performance, and the performance reached the international advanced level. A few days ago, the research results have been completed 100 tons of super capacitor carbon and 1000 tons of battery carbon production lines.

Lead-acid battery is one of the most widely used batteries. In 2005, scientists combined lead-acid batteries with supercapacitors, and invented a supercapacitor (lead-carbon battery). Compared with traditional lead-acid batteries, the performance has been significantly improved. Lead-carbon battery is called a new generation of lead-acid battery, which is a research hotspot in the field of lead-acid battery in the world.

Lin Haibo introduced that rice husk contains silicon dioxide and carbon. Porous carbon can be formed after removing silicon dioxide, and it will become an active carbon material with great application value after further activation. "This kind of activated carbon has a multi-stage pore structure with macropores, mesopores and micropores, and its electrochemical performance is excellent." He said that only rice husk can bring such a wonderful effect, and other carbon materials such as coconut shells and palm shells obtained after treatment do not have such a multi-stage porous structure.

After 10 years' efforts, the team has overcome the key technologies such as green preparation process of biomass rice husk-based capacitor carbon, carbon additives for rice husk-based batteries, and negative electrode of lead-carbon batteries, and developed lead-carbon batteries with high cost performance. Compared with ordinary lead-acid batteries, lead-carbon batteries have improved cycle life by 6 times, charging speed by 8 times and discharging power by 3 times. At the same time, it has the advantage of low cost.

Lead-carbon batteries have passed the testing of the third-party authority of the National Chemical Power Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. This achievement has published more than 50 papers in international core journals and applied for more than 20 invention patents.

This achievement has realized the complete industrial chain of carbon materials, lead-carbon batteries and rice husk-based batteries, which are mainly used in the fields of automobile start-stop power supply, automobile hybrid power and energy storage.
