There has always been a saying in the automobile industry that the automobile factory works for the engine factory and the engine factory works for Bosch.

It vividly embodies Bosch's "overlord" position in the automobile supply chain.

After all, Bosch has been supplying cars to Carl Benz since the year it was founded. Since the car was born more than 100 years ago, Bosch has known the car-related technologies that everyone knows and doesn't know.

Is it possible for such a great Bosch to be photographed on the beach in the new wave of the automobile industry?

New car manufacturers such as Tesla are trying to surpass traditional car giants; At the end of the automobile supply chain, there are also many cross-border people trying to break the monopoly of international oligarchs such as Bosch, Denso and China.

For example, Huawei and Foxconn in China, and even Midea and Hisense. Huawei has also said on many occasions that it wants to be "China Bosch in the new automobile era".

Last year, China surpassed German for the first time and became the largest customer of Bosch's automotive sector. The importance of China automobile market to Bosch will surely increase.

In the next few years, there will be another fierce battle between Huawei and Bosch.

So what is the most important thing in this war? Who is more likely to win?

10 June 13 On the Bosch Intelligent Transportation Technology Innovation Experience Day of 20021,Chen Yudong, President of Bosch China, gave his own views. "It doesn't matter who puts forward (the new four modernizations) first, the key is who runs fast and how to get closer to customers."

Intelligent, electric and "fast"

To compete for the "new four modernizations", we must first ask Bosch what level of artificial intelligence is?

Zhao, vice president of Bosch Intelligent Driving and Control in China, cited a set of data: At the 20 19 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, the number of papers published by Bosch ranked first in the industry and seventh overall. The top six companies are Google, Microsoft, Facebook and IBM.

Zhao Xiuyan introduced that Bosch has actually made great efforts in the field of intelligent driving. Moreover, it has system capabilities: on the one hand, Bosch has a perfect multi-sensor combination scheme in the sensor layer and the sensor layer; On the other hand, on the computing platform, Bosch can also use CPU+GPU to realize 300? The powerful computing power of TOPs.

In addition, at present, Bosch's millimeter-wave radar ranks first in the world.

In terms of electrification, Bosch invested more than 5 billion euros after the transformation of the powertrain department in China. Bosch's electrification technology is in an absolute leading position in the world, and there is a representative example:

Traditional braking is purely mechanical conduction of hydraulically driven brake pads, but Tesla hopes to add electrical signals from the on-board computer to the mechanical braking process to affect the braking strength and speed. Only Bosch's iBooster suite can do this.

In the era of smart cars, the more critical factor affecting the choice of car companies may be that Bosch is the only bilateral advantage company in the world that can combine semiconductor production and auto parts supply.

This is why in order to get the chip, business leaders not only "bombed" Chen Yudong on WeChat in turn, but also ran to the door of his office.

The number of chips used in traditional diesel locomotives is about 100 to 200, and new energy vehicles may now reach 500-600. Jian Jiang, vice president of corporate communication and government affairs in Bosch Asia Pacific, said that according to the data in 2020, the average number of chips produced by Bosch in each car is about 17. In addition, because car companies will also buy Bosch controllers and other parts, they indirectly need Bosch's help to purchase a large number of chips from other suppliers.

As one of the world's leading automotive semiconductor manufacturers, Bosch has more than 50 years of experience in this field. In addition to power semiconductors, Bosch semiconductors also include micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

Today, there should be no semiconductor company in China with such experience as Bosch.

However, even if it foresees the changes of the new track in the future, Bosch must meet many new challenges.

Zhang Ying, president of Bosch Chassis Control System in China, said that the separation of software and hardware is a challenge that the whole industry must face, and Bosch is actively preparing.

"Now Bosch discusses this part of the underlying software, and we complete the driver software. The upper application software, that is, software that is strongly related to customers, is dominated by others. "

Those "wasted money" on carbon neutrality

"Carbon neutrality has a certain cost. When we first started doing it four years ago, it was difficult to convince our partners. An enterprise needs to pay to do this thing. At the board meeting, the partner said, why did you do it? This is a waste of money. At the Hainan meeting, I asked questions and no one answered. "

Chen Yudong described the loneliness of Bosch's road to carbon neutrality.

In the past three years, Bosch has invested 65,438+0,500 "carbon neutral" projects around the world. It is planned that during the 65,438+00 years from 2020 to 2030, Bosch will invest 6,543.8 billion euros in energy efficiency, saving about 6,543.8 billion kWh. In China, Bosch China invested 42 million yuan in 2020, with a cumulative investment of over 654.38 billion yuan in recent two years.

By saving energy and reducing emissions to improve energy efficiency, adopting its own clean energy and purchasing green electricity, Bosch has now become the first large-scale industrial enterprise in the world to achieve carbon neutrality, which was officially completed in February 2020.

The carbon emission of automobile industry is divided into two parts, one is the application level, accounting for 74%; In the upstream and downstream of the industry, including suppliers and production stages, accounting for 26%.

The first step taken by Bosch is to make a fuss about this 26% share.

Since the beginning of this year, domestic car companies have put forward their own carbon-neutral goals, and Bosch should be able to see the money come back.

"We walk on two legs." Regarding how to serve automobile manufacturers to achieve carbon neutrality, Chen Yudong mentioned two points:

One is to provide more energy-saving and environmentally-friendly products, such as energy recovery of brakes, that is, to provide OEMs with solutions to reduce energy consumption; On the product side; The second is to "grab" the rice bowl of the consulting company and provide consulting, services and suggestions on carbon emissions, energy conservation and emission reduction solutions.

There is investment in carbon neutrality, and it will be difficult to recover the cost for quite some time, but Bosch hopes to take the lead in becoming a model of transformation. Four years in advance, I'm afraid other suppliers will not be able to match for a while.

About "Stuttgart can't solve the traffic problem at Wudaokou"

Over the years, Bosch has become the world's number one auto parts enterprise in terms of sales volume, and it can still achieve positive growth even in the case of a shortage of 202 1 core, which is closely related to Bosch's direct use of many "* * * rail" things in major markets. Putting it on the whole vehicle is the thinking of "big single product".

However, in the era of smart electric vehicles, the situation is beginning to become different-every international company and global company will face the challenge of localization, because smart electric vehicles should be open based on local data and scenarios.

Obviously, "the complicated traffic problem at Wudaokou can't be solved in Stuttgart", especially in the China market with the fastest intelligent electrification, what should we do?

"Our board of directors is changing. After the new board of directors comes up next year, the biggest change is that I report directly to the chairman of the board of directors of Bosch Group. " Chen Yudong revealed that at that time, the chairman will give China great support.

As for the specific project level, Mao Taixiang, president of Bosch Engineering Technology in China, gave an example: SOA Base's EE architecture is made in China, with 3 or 4 flagship or Ligthouse projects, which are ahead of Germany and Europe.

"Car companies have different requirements for the scenes, functions and connections of food, clothing, housing and transportation. Now we see more personalization and customization, which is the current state. " Chen Yudong said, but to a certain extent, there will be a national standard. Bosch hopes to develop in the direction of standards, from the current personalized and project-based system to the future platform system.

Write it at the end

A person in charge of BYD Auto Sales Company once said one thing to the media:

Domestic parts are really cheap, but the quality is not enough. In the past, in order to satisfy consumers' pursuit of low prices, they could only buy some low-priced parts. Now we must start with consumers.
