1, Basic Science Indicator Database (ESI) is a basic analysis and evaluation tool to measure the performance of scientific research and track the development trend of science. It was launched by institute for scientific information (ISI), a world-famous academic information publishing institution, in 20001year. After the reorganization of ISI assets, ESI became a part of Thomson Reuters.

2.ESI is a quantitative analysis database established by Thomson Reuters based on more than11000 documents of more than one academic journal collected by SCI and SSCI. ESI has become one of the important index tools widely used in the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions and countries/regions. The 22 disciplines offered by ESI are: biology and biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, economics and commerce, engineering, earth science, materials science, mathematics, comprehensive interdisciplinary, physics, social science, space science, agricultural science, clinical medicine, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavior, immunology, psychiatry and psychology, microbiology, environmental science and ecology, botany and zoology.
