What is a pkd blade?
PKD is a sintered synthetic diamond blank. It has the structural shape of a metal cutting tool and is made of hard material (tungsten carbide) as the matrix. This metal-based cutting material has certain conductivity, which makes it possible for PKD tools to cut or process by electrochemical corrosion. An important task of electro-corrosion machining is to machine qualified blades on sintered PKD blank. Another problem to be solved in electro-corrosion machining is to re-sharpen the PKD tool installed in the tool body to make it sharper. Therefore, Agie Company has equipped their Agiecut lathe with a set of suitable generators, signal generators, new special software, mechanical parts and A-axis rotation system.

The motor plays an important role in improving the electrochemical machining ability and electrochemical machining quality of PKD blades. For example, Agie uses IPG (Intelligent Motor) and Ecut motor control technology to make the motor system of machine tools suitable for various high-speed cutting and electrochemical machining. The cutting wire of electro-corrosion machining cuts and corrodes different metal materials in PKD blades: hard materials and sintered materials.

Precision, high-performance mechanical and motor systems can not fully meet the needs of PKD blade grinding, and can not guarantee the economical and efficient production or grinding of qualified PKD blades. They must also rely on effective software control programs.

Through close cooperation with Aachen Esco Co., Ltd., Agie developed the EDM map software of Windows system. It can generate NC measurement, electric corrosion machining and grinding machining programs of rotating tools according to the geometric dimensions of tools. Accurately obtaining the actual position, actual angle and cutting surface shape parameters of the blade is the premise of high-precision electro-corrosion machining. These data are best measured directly on the production and processing machine tool or on the five-coordinate measuring machine. All production preparation and cutting data shall be capable of network calling.

CAD/CAM system is the necessary foundation of electrochemical machining of PKD tools. Program-controlled software can call CAD files in DXF format, and the cutter can measure the blade of PKD at any angle and any position, which is the basis for obtaining accurate cutter parameters. The parameters of machine tool clamping parts are stored in the database of machine tool numerical control system. The cutting edge length and cutting diameter of the tool can be defined by the operator himself. At the same time, the operator also needs to give the grinding direction, rake angle, chamfer, chamfer width and the number of cutting edges of PKD blades.
