China Knowledge Network refers to China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), which is supported by Ministry of Education, Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Ministry of Science and Technology, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and State Planning Commission.
Initiated by Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Tongfang, the knowledge informatization construction project aimed at realizing the dissemination, enjoyment and value-added utilization of knowledge resources in the whole society was started in June 1999.
The concept of national knowledge infrastructure (NKI) was put forward by World Development Report 1998 of the World Bank.
1In March, 1999, Wang Mingliang proposed to build China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), which was listed as a key project in Tsinghua University, with the overall goal of comprehensively opening up information channels in all aspects of knowledge production, dissemination, diffusion and utilization, and building an exchange and cooperation platform to support knowledge innovation, learning and application in various industries across the country.
After years of efforts, CNKI Engineering Group has built the "CNKI Digital Library" with the largest full-text information in the world by adopting self-developed and internationally advanced digital library technology.
