How to Cultivate Students' Symbolic Consciousness
First, closely combine the teaching of concepts, propositions and formulas in each period to cultivate students' symbol consciousness. Because concepts, propositions and formulas are important components of mathematics curriculum, the focus of mathematics teaching, and are closely related to the expression and use of mathematical symbols. Therefore, the Curriculum Standards put forward specific requirements in the objectives and content standards of each period. For example: "To understand the meaning of symbols, we can use symbols and words to describe the size of numbers within 10,000" and "Know the brackets" (Section 1); "Understanding parenthesis", "Numbers can be expressed by letters in certain circumstances", "Understanding the equivalence relation in simple time and expressing it by letters" and "Equivalence relation in simple time can be expressed by equations" (Section II); The second is to cultivate students' symbol consciousness in combination with the real situation. Here, on the one hand, by creating as many practical problems or realistic situations as possible, we can guide and help students to understand the meanings of symbols, expressions and relationships, or guide students to abstract and express realistic situational problems by symbols; On the other hand, a specific symbolic expression inspires students to fill in and explain various practical meanings. This two-way process based on real situation and symbolization is conducive to enhancing the flexibility, fluidity and flexibility of students' mathematical expression and mathematical symbolic thinking. The third is to develop students' symbolic consciousness in the process of solving mathematical problems. For example, guide students to experience the whole process of discovering problems, asking questions (actually abstracting and expressing problems with symbols), analyzing problems and solving problems (actually operating, reasoning and mathematical thinking with symbols), accumulate experience in using symbols in this process, better understand the essence of mathematical thoughts contained in symbols, and gradually promote students' symbol consciousness to be improved.
