The core of agricultural production folklore is the procedures and methods of farming. Agricultural production folklore belongs to the category of material folklore and is a part of production folklore. Also known as farming irrigation folklore and rural economic folklore. It is a cultural phenomenon originated from agricultural economic activities. Originated from the ancient custom of gathering, it appeared in the Neolithic Age and existed in agricultural-related activities at home and abroad. The classification and connotation of agricultural folklore include five aspects: production, belief, ceremony, language and entertainment. Agricultural production customs are customs and practices directly related to specific farming activities, including the production and use of farm tools, farming procedures and methods, labor combination and helper methods. The earliest form of agriculture is slash and burn, which is the main content of primitive agricultural production customs. Then there was hoeing and ploughing. Agricultural development began with the cultivation of wild plants. In Asia, Europe and North Africa, these ancient cereal varieties, barley, wheat and millet, have been planted at the same time. Rice originated in southern China and India, while corn and rye were planted in South America and Caucasus respectively. Different crops produce different methods and customs, and the spread of crop species is an important factor in the spread and mutual influence of agricultural production customs. The creation and development of farm tools have gone through the stages of simple processing with both hands, primitive hoes, wood-metal composite tools and semi-mechanization, mechanization, etc., and a series of operating customs have been formed in the aspects of using methods and related soil, water (see oranges and waterwheels), fertilizer, planting, management, etc., which are related to different using habits of manpower, animal power, wind power, hydraulic power and mechanical power. In agricultural production customs, there is also seasonal knowledge related to the characteristics of farming season, commonly known as folk calendar.
