The difference between positive syndrome and deficiency syndrome
Deficiency syndrome in TCM mainly refers to deficiency of both qi and blood, and diseases caused by deficiency of both yin and yang, including physical deficiency, which is the general name of various debilitating diseases. If it is empirical, it also refers to damp-heat, various excess diseases, exogenous syndrome, pathogenic wind-cold-dampness and endogenous blood stasis, including endogenous phlegm-dampness. Deficiency syndrome and excess syndrome are two different syndromes. Deficiency syndrome is the manifestation of low viscera function caused by the decrease of qi, blood, yin and yang, mainly including shortness of breath, weakness, deep voice, insomnia and dreaminess, pale lips and tongue. Clinically, it can be divided into qi deficiency, blood deficiency, yin deficiency and yang deficiency. According to the syndrome differentiation of zang-fu organs, it can be divided into heart-qi deficiency, heart-blood deficiency, stomach yin deficiency, spleen-qi deficiency, kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. Excess syndrome is a kind of syndrome with excessive pathogenic factors as its main clinical manifestation, and it is an hyperactive symptom manifested by the confrontation between healthy qi and pathogenic factors, such as fever, headache, abdominal distension, acid swallowing and so on.
