Piano Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music was formally established on 196 1. As early as the provincial art institute (1942- 1950), the keyboard musical instrument teaching and research group was established. 1953 The piano teaching and research section was established under the Department of Instrumental Music of Southwest Conservatory of Music.

Piano Department enjoys a high reputation in China, keyboard instruments are rated as provincial key disciplines, and the main piano courses are key courses in Sichuan Province. The department has discipline teaching and research section, public course teaching and research section, accordion teaching and research section and electronic organ teaching and research section, and offers piano, accordion, electronic organ and tuning majors. There are 74 teachers and more than 400 students in the whole department.

The piano department has a strong faculty and remarkable teaching results. In recent years, the piano department has trained a number of outstanding piano players, such as Di Yun, Chen Sa, Wu Chi and Du Jing, and won prizes frequently in major piano competitions at home and abroad, which has attracted the attention of experts and scholars in the music industry and produced great social repercussions. Piano major has therefore become one of the important brand majors. The overall construction of keyboard instruments not only inherited the outstanding advantages of piano teaching, but also made a breakthrough in the teaching of accordion, electronic organ and other majors, and stepped onto a new level. In 2007, Piano Teaching and Research Section was awarded as "Excellent Teaching Team in Sichuan Province".

The piano department has a strong academic atmosphere and frequent foreign exchanges, and many famous international and domestic pianists come to the department to give lectures and perform. Piano teachers often hold academic lectures and concerts, and publish dozens of papers in national journals and academic seminars, which are unanimously recognized by their peers. The teaching achievement "taking teaching as the main body and cultivating high, precise and sharp piano players" won the "First Prize of Teaching Achievement in Sichuan Province" in 2004.

The accordion major of the piano department also has strong strength. Students of this major have won many awards in major international competitions and won honors for the college.
