Cyber violence is a social phenomenon.

There are many sources of cyber violence, such as the anonymity of netizens, the lack of institutional and moral constraints on the Internet, the quality of some netizens, social injustice, the backwardness of the rule of law and spiritual civilization, etc.

The emergence of cyber mobs in China is closely related to the younger netizens in China, the commercial operation of the Internet and the democratic environment in China.

The 22nd Statistical Report on Internet Development in China released by China Internet Information Center (CNNIC) in July 2008 shows that 68.6% of netizens in China are young people under 30. However, this feature has not changed in the eleven years of network development in China, and the proportion of netizens below 18 and between 18-24 is on the rise. The younger netizens are the direct reason for the emergence of cyber violence. Compared with older people, these young netizens are full of blood and passion, but they are also impulsive, easily angered and easy to indulge themselves. As soon as the main post event was published online, they couldn't wait to express their views and positions with keyboards, showing their dissatisfaction and anger. It is very easy for these angry individuals to form a temporary group with the same views on the Internet, and then carry out planned, purposeful and organized recovery and attack on the parties as a group in the name of "justice". They think they are doing justice, but they ignore the excessive harm they have brought to others. Moreover, their age also determines their level of ideological understanding and depth of understanding of things. They are easily influenced by group emotions and superficial information, and are eager to judge whether something is right or wrong, but they can't quickly see the complex relationship and reasons behind the incident. This young impulse and ignorance can easily identify with and use violence to carry out cyber violence.

The characteristics of the network itself can accommodate this young impulse and ignorance better than traditional media or speech platforms. As an online editor said, the word "cyber mob" is not new. In fact, the "media mob" has existed for many years. It's just that the "cyber mob" is more powerful because of its low cost of speech, low cost of alliance and large killing radius. Moreover, the virtual nature of the network makes it possible for each participant to conceal or fabricate his own identity, thus making the norms and constraints that should be observed in real life lose their due binding force. This is undoubtedly a free paradise for young netizens who are not self-disciplined, impulsive and indulgent. [4]

At the same time, the commercial operation of the network sometimes takes advantage of the impulsiveness and ignorance of young netizens, which encourages these cyber violence incidents. Although it is not excluded that some posters hype themselves through extreme language or deliberately retaliate with their attacks, it cannot be ignored that in their commercial operations, online media deliberately write and perform related events or let online atrocities spread in order to seize the opportunity in market competition. In order to pursue the click-through rate, online media always pay attention to planning topics. The more controversial the topic, the more creative it is. They always hype news events with eye-catching big pictures, thrilling headlines and exaggerated detailed stories. For example, in the event of "the most poisonous stepmother in history", the post said that the abused female child was "beaten with blood, and the six vertebrae in her back were basically interrupted", and the pictures distributed were also bloody. After reposting in major forums, the title has been upgraded to "The most vicious stepmother beats her six-year-old daughter in history". Bloody pictures and sensational headlines have become an important means for the internet to arouse the nervous excitement of netizens. It was later confirmed that the six-year-old girl vomited blood only because of illness, not because of her stepmother. It is hard to say that unverified news is not hype of online media. At the beginning, the "cat abuse incident" caused an uproar immediately after the release of the cat-flapping forum, but the moderator of this edition deleted some posts of calm analysis and kept the posts of unreasonable abuse. 4 Young impulse and passion have become the capital for online merchants to make money here.
