What does BWM mean?
BWM, abbreviated as bwm

Ship ballast water is mainly used to ensure the stability and floating state of the ship when it is empty or not fully loaded. Before the ship leaves the port, pump seawater into its ballast tank, and gradually empty the ballast water before arriving at the scheduled port for loading, so that the ship can load the goods to the maximum extent.

When ships inject ballast water, they also bring marine organisms into the ballast tank. When ships pump ballast water into the marine environment of another port, they also bring these exotic aquatic organisms into another marine environment, thus affecting and destroying the ecology of the new marine environment.

Convention on ballast water information expansion

The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Its Sediments (hereinafter referred to as "Ballast Water Convention") was adopted at the International Conference on the Management of Ships' Ballast Water held by the International Maritime Organization in 2004. The provisions for the entry into force of the Convention are as follows: 12 months after ratification by 30 countries accounting for 35% of the world's merchant tonnage.

On September 8, 20 16, Finland ratified the BWM Convention, bringing the gross tonnage of merchant ships of the contracting parties to 35. 144 1%, accounting for 52 contracting parties, and bringing the Convention into force on September 8, 20 17.

Functions and tasks of ballast water system

The function of the ballast water system is to inject ballast water into or discharge ballast water from the ballast water tank, so as to achieve the following purposes: under different working conditions such as navigation, entry and exit, loading and unloading, berthing, etc., the ship can keep the proper balance of the displacement, draft, longitudinal and lateral directions of the hull, so as to maintain an appropriate metacentric height, reduce excessive bending moment and shear force of the hull and reduce the vibration of the hull.

The task of ballast water system is to inject ballast water into each ballast tank through ballast water pump, valve box and ballast pipeline, discharge ballast water from each ballast tank, and transfer ballast water between ballast tanks.
