My grandfather is Guan Shen and my father is Guan Yi. In the first year of Zhong Ping, the Emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 184), Guan Yu committed a crime and fled to Zhuo Jun. Later, he defected to Liu Bei, who fought in Zhuo Jun and took part in suppressing the Yellow Scarf Uprising. After Liu Bei was promoted to Pingyuan, Guan Yu was appointed as another Sima. In the first year of Xingping in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 194), Guan Yu helped Liu Bei win Xuzhou, but was successfully attacked by Lu Bu.
