Many domestic works have introduced and analyzed eight combinations of Metz, and many people have highly affirmed them. They believe that Metz's "GS" theory not only promotes the academic development of film theory, but also puts forward a reasonable "segmentation" model for the relationship between film technology and narrative.
Theoretical activities
Metz's film theory activities can be roughly divided into three periods, namely, semiotic period, narratology period and culturology period. In the semiotic period, there are also the creation stage, analysis stage and deepening stage of film semiotics.
Narrative film period. Starting from 1980s, he turned to the problem of narrative films and taught his research results in the doctoral class of Paris University. His book "Nobody Says, Still Film Orientation" (199 1) is arranged according to his lecture notes. The problem of narrative films is discussed extensively and in detail in the book.
Such as subjective image and subjective voice, neutral image and neutral voice, film, mirror image, voice-over and objectivity system in film, etc. Including the theme and object of performance, which deepens the research of narrative films.
Film culturology period. After Mace retired, his research interest changed and he began to study the relationship between movies and drama, literature, music, painting and other arts.
The classic work of film second semiotics, The Imaginary Signifier: Psychoanalysis and Film (1975), consists of four parts. The first part is the basic program of film second semiotics, and the other three parts are the in-depth study of the main problems of film semiotics.
