Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is longer than Qingzhong Upper Jiao Damp-heat, Coptis chinensis is longer than Qingxin Meridian and Middle Jiao Damp-heat, and Phellodendron amurense is longer than Qingxia Jiao Damp-heat.

Difference: Coptis chinensis and Scutellaria baicalensis can cool blood and treat blood-heat syndrome, among which Scutellaria baicalensis can still prevent miscarriage and treat fetal movement disorder caused by heat; Phellodendron amurense can purge fire and remove steaming, and treat nocturnal emission, bone qi and heat, night sweats, etc.

Although Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, Rhizoma Coptidis and Cortex Phellodendri all belong to the category of clearing away heat and reducing fire, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi tends to clear the upper scorching fire, Rhizoma Coptidis tends to clear the middle scorching fire, and Cortex Phellodendri tends to clear the lower scorching fire. According to their respective characteristics, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is often used first for patients with carditis and lung fire, Coptis chinensis for patients with gastritis, and Cortex Phellodendri for patients with damp-heat in large intestine and bladder.
