Do you know these artistic treasures hidden on the land of Hebei?
Xiangtangshan Grottoes, located in Fengfeng Mining Area of Handan City, were announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 196 1.
Grottoes began to be chiseled in the Northern Qi Dynasty, and continued to be chiseled in the Sui, Tang, Song and Ming Dynasties. At present, there are 16 caves, more than 450 cliff statues, more than 5,000 statues of different sizes, and a large number of scriptures. It is the largest cave group in Hebei.
These grottoes built on the mountain are a treasure house of Buddhism, architecture, sculpture and calligraphy, which gather the artistic essence of the whole Northern Qi Dynasty.
Beiqi only existed for 27 years. Few people can remember these 27 years. However, when I visited Xiangtang Mountain in the north and south, I was suddenly shocked by the grottoes dug in 27 years.
Sui and Tang Dynasties inherited the unrestrained style of the Northern Wei Dynasty, which was elegant and romantic, showing exquisite and vivid characteristics. Xiangtangshan Grottoes are typical royal grottoes after Yungang Grottoes and Longmen Grottoes, and occupy an extremely important position in the history of the development of ancient grottoes art in China.
Mr. Su Bai, an expert in China Grottoes, once said: "The epitome of China Grottoes is in xiang tang."

Fahuadong Grottoes, located in the northeast of Qingyan Temple Village, Shidong Township, Wu 'an City, has a "Thousand-Handed Buddha", which is one of the relatively intact cultural relics in the northern region. This Buddha statue is 1.2 meters high, with a square crown on its head and a statue of 1 carved on the crown. It has 44 arms, each holding a weapon or weapon, and sits on a lotus seat with a ring on its wrist. The carving is very fine and amazing.
There are also "500 arhats" in the cave, and there are more than 500 reliefs such as dragon-lowering arhats, crouching tiger arhats and Buddha-chanting arhats. Every arhat holds beads, scriptures, utensils, musical instruments and other items.
Fahua Cave was dug in the seventh year of Taiping and the seventh year of Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (982), and it was rebuilt and continued in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The grottoes are divided into left, middle and right caves, facing south and carved side by side. Besides the grottoes, there are four inscriptions in Ming and Qing Dynasties and two stone pillars in Ming Dynasty.

Shuiyu Temple Grottoes are located in the northwest of Sihoupo Village, Dashe Town, Fengfeng Mining Area, commonly known as "Xiaoxiang Hall".
The most worth seeing in the cave is the statue of Bodhisattva, one Buddha and two disciples. Although the head is missing, the body part is well preserved, and the scarlet Buddhist dress is close to the body, elegant and elegant, setting off a beautiful figure.

Shuiyu Temple Grottoes were excavated in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550,577) and continued to be excavated in the Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties. There are 2 grottoes, 2 cliff statues, 2 classic buildings in Song Dynasty, Lingta 1 in Yuan Dynasty and inscription 1 in Ming Dynasty. There is a cave between the east and west mountains outside the temple.
The overall design and layout of the grottoes are rigorous, and the carving content is rich. It is the most representative central square pillar pagoda temple grottoes in the Northern Qi Dynasty, with high historical and artistic value.

Yoga Mountain is located dozens of kilometers west of Pingshan County. Only the remains of Mingjue Temple on the mountain remain, and the cliff statue of Yoga Mountain has been included in the national key cultural relics protection units.
Among the cliff statues built on the cliff, the largest Maitreya statue is as high as 9 meters. The other two cliff statues, one on the cliff in front of the mountain gate and the other on the cliff on the west side of the Mingjue Temple site. Two statues were badly damaged.
It is said that there is also a statue of Guanyin carved next to it, written in the fifth year of Xining, that is, AD 1072. It's just that weeds and lush shrubs grow in time, blurring the original clear handwriting.

In the west of Tianchang Town, Jingxing County, in the hinterland of Taihang Mountain at the junction of Shanxi and Hebei, there is a quaint and quiet village-Xiaolongwo Village.
Longwo Temple Grottoes in the west of the village were built in the Northern Song Dynasty, but they were destroyed for some reason, except for the grottoes on the cliff.
The grottoes are close to National Highway 307, high in the middle of the cliff, a few meters above the ground, and there are still more than ten stone niches. There are 47 relief Buddha statues with different postures and realistic shapes. One of the Bodhisattvas stood on the cliff and sat quietly and gracefully. There are several cliff stone carvings scattered around the grottoes, which should be inscribed by celebrities in previous dynasties. Unfortunately, they have been weathered by the wind and rain, and the handwriting is not clear.
These cave temples and cliff statues are scattered all over Hebei, and many of them have become forgotten treasures.
