If a person is unkind and unfair, it must be a condemnation of his poor character and moral corruption. Since ancient times, sages have been strict with self-discipline through benevolence and righteousness. Monk "gave his life for righteousness" and Tan Sitong "gave his life for benevolence". They even interpreted the word "benevolence and righteousness" with their own lives. It can be seen that these two words, as heavy as a thousand stones, are two cornerstones to support people. To be a person, you must be a kind person.

"Benevolence" is what the great sage Confucius pursued all his life. Mencius' understanding of benevolence is "compassion ends." So what is compassion? If you see that the east wind has risen and a hundred flowers are blooming, the original gorgeous things remain in memory, leaving only the broken body on the ground in the cold and wet night. Are you touched, sad and lost? If you see a man in rags, his eyes dim with hunger and his eyes sunken, will you feel pity and can't help but lend a helping hand? In this way, if we encourage compassion in the dark, people can't live without compassion. Without compassion, there is no "benevolence". People on the mountain have become permanent ice and snow. Indifference replaces enthusiasm, and society will always be frozen, without emotion, light and warmth. How can such a world make people want to stay? As the saying goes, "people are not vegetation, who can be ruthless". Since people are people, not plants, they should be kind-hearted and let the world have feelings.

The original meaning of "righteousness" is "ceremony". China people are used to the principle of balance, so they also regard "justice" as one of the codes of conduct. Mencius said, "The heart of shame and evil ends in righteousness." What is shame? There is a saying in the Book of Songs: "Rats have teeth, but there are many people! What if people don't stop and die? " Therefore, as a person, we should know shame and take care of it. As the saying goes, people want to face bark, which is exactly what it means. But look at our society now, how many people can resist the temptation, stick to themselves and be "just"? In April this year, the extraordinarily serious theft case of the vault of Handan Agricultural Bank, which shocked the whole country, was closed, and the amount stolen from the vault was as high as 5 1 10,000. However, at first, the suspect was greedy for money to buy lottery tickets. After attending several elementary schools, he frequently extended his black hand to the vault, and these two were actually cashiers in the bank cash management center. No wonder the old people in the streets even called them "shameless" after the case was closed. Righteousness should be the fundamental foothold and value orientation of being a man, which is also the essence of China's traditional moral culture.

Benevolence and righteousness have always been complementary and inseparable. As the highest moral standard and life ideal of Confucian culture, it is not only the echo of this Millennium, but also the foundation for people to settle down in today's society. Only by adhering to benevolence and righteousness can we achieve a man who is magnanimous and noble, sublimate his personality and achieve harmony in Taoyuan.
