Modernist design movement came into being in Europe and America at the beginning of the 20th century, and continued to decline in 1950s and 1960s due to the rise of "postmodernism", but the influence of modernist art and modernist design still exists today. "Post-modernism" art and "post-modernism" design are not only the negation of modernism movement, but also the continuation of modernism in a sense, or a new interpretation of modernism. As the famous postmodern theorist Charles Jencks said in the book What is Postmodernism published in 1986: "Postmodernism has a double meaning, which is the continuation of modernism and the transcendence of postmodernism." If you don't understand modernism, you won't understand the history of modernist movement, including modernist design, and you won't be able to understand postmodernism. In the 1980s and 1990s, there appeared a trend of reviving modernism in the western world, which was called "neo-modernism" or "neo-Bauhausism". This trend is closely related to the modernist design movement, which shows that the influence of modernist design has never subsided, and the strong vitality of modernist design may still have a practical role in the design in the next century.
