Could you please tell us about the development history of The Signs of Cancer: The Next Generation?
In 2000, Douglas Hanahan and Robert A. Weinberg published an article in Cell: Characteristics of Cancer. This comprehensive article introduces six basic characteristics of tumor cells, which is called the classic paper of oncology research. Up to now, the number of citations has exceeded 1 10,000. In the new issue of Cell in March 20 1 1, Professor Weinberg published an upgraded review: The Characteristics of Cancer: The Next Generation, which is also a 29-page paper in cooperation with Douglas Hanahan. The hot spots and progress of oncology in recent 10 years are briefly described, including autophagy, tumor stem cells, tumor microenvironment and so on. And expand the original six characteristics of tumor cells to ten, which has become one of the ten most concerned articles in Cell magazine, which is a classic. Personally, I think both articles are required reading for biologists, especially oncologists.
