Yang Di Yang Guang, a native of Huayin, was born in Chang 'an, the capital of Sui Dynasty, and was the second emperor of Sui Dynasty. The second son of Emperor Wendi and Empress Dugu of Sui Dynasty, he was made King of Jin in Kaiyuan, Prince in November in the 20th year, and succeeded to the throne in July in Renshou four years. During his reign, he built the Grand Canal (Kaiyongji Canal, Tongji Canal, Jiahangou Canal, Jiangnan Canal), built Luoyang City as the east capital, started the imperial examination system, and personally recruited Tuguhun and Goguryeo. Because of the abuse of people's power, the world was in chaos, which directly led to the demise of the Sui Dynasty and was hanged by his subordinates in Jiangdu in 6 18.
Yang Di ordered the excavation and construction of the North-South Grand Canal, connecting Qiantang River, Yangtze River, Huaihe River, Yellow River and Haihe River. Such a huge project will benefit future generations. For China, the Grand Canal is far more important than the Great Wall. The Grand Canal connects the Yellow River basin and the Yangtze River basin, connecting two civilizations. The Grand Canal, with Luoyang as the center, reaches Zhuo Jun in the north and Yuhang in the south, with a total length of more than 2,000 kilometers. This is the longest canal in ancient times. The opening of the Grand Canal promoted the development of cities on both sides of the Canal, and cities such as Jiangdu, Yuhang and Zhuo Jun flourished rapidly. At that time, on the canal, "merchant ships can't stop riding." The Grand Canal promoted the economic and cultural exchanges between the North and the South during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, safeguarded national unity and strengthened centralization of authority.
Yang Di, the Emperor of Sui Dynasty, made great contributions to the construction of the Grand Canal, but he spent too much manpower to gather one million people at a time, and the people were terrified. Later, he spent a lot of manpower to build a big ship to swim south, which was one of the fuses of his later demise.
