In order to win the battle of Jingzhou, Lv Meng made great contributions. Sun Quan appointed him the prefect of Nanjun, made him the Hou of Liling, and gave him 100 million yuan and 500 Jin of gold. Lv Meng repeatedly refused to accept money, but Sun Quan refused. Therefore, for Wu Dong, it is considered a very wise choice to seize the opportunity of sneak attack on Guan Yu and Jingzhou, which not only solved the threat of Guan Yu, but also expanded the territory of Jiangdong, thus making Shu Han the weakest of the three countries in Wei Shuwu. But in my opinion, taking Jingzhou is a short-sighted embodiment. In other words, Sun Quan attacked Guan Yu and captured Jingzhou, which seemed to expand the territory, but it was not a wise choice!
First of all, although we often say that Guan Yu was careless in losing Jingzhou, or that Sun Quan took Jingzhou, Jingzhou here actually refers to the three counties in Jingzhou. After Battle of Red Cliffs, the seven counties of Jingzhou contested by military strategists were divided among Liu Bei, Cao Cao and Sun Quan. Cao Cao occupied Nanyang County, the largest county in the north of Jingzhou, Sun Quan got Jiangxia County and Nanjun County, and Liu Bei got four counties in the south of Jingzhou (Changsha County, Lingling County, Guiyang County and Wuling County). After Zhou Yu's death, Lu Su persuaded Sun Quan to "lend" Nanjun to Liu Bei, so Liu Bei owned five counties in Jingzhou (Nanjun, Changsha, Lingling, Guiyang and Wuling).
On this basis, Sun Quan attacked Guan Yu, captured Jingzhou and only captured the territory of three counties. But the loss of Sun Quan's side cannot be made up by the three counties. In my opinion, Sun Quan's loss is mainly reflected in the following aspects. On the one hand, betraying the Sun-Liu alliance led to the weakness of Shu Han, and in the end it would only make Cao Wei take advantage of the fisherman. As we all know, since Battle of Red Cliffs, Sun Quan and Liu Bei have started a struggle with Cao Cao in order to avoid being wiped out by Cao Cao. This is because if Sun Quan and Liu Bei did not join hands at that time, they would probably be wiped out by Cao Cao one by one, and there would be no tripartite confrontation between the three countries. Before Sun Quan attacked Guan Yu, Guan Yu had dealt a heavy blow to Cao Cao through the battle of Xiangfan, which was undoubtedly the best opportunity for Sun and Liu to take the opportunity to reverse the contrast.
If Sun Quan can seize this opportunity, then the best result is that Sun Quan and Liu Bei share the world equally. However, Sun Quan attacked Guan Yu and captured Jingzhou, which triggered the Yiling War and caused heavy losses to Shu Han.
However, when Shu Han was hit hard, it would only make Cao Wei take advantage of people's danger and let Cao Wei separate more military forces to deal with Sun Quan. On the other hand, if Shu Han can remain strong, Zhuge Liang's Northern Expedition will have a greater containment and influence on Cao Wei, which can help Sun Quan reduce the pressure from Cao Wei.
