I. Basic explanation
WOS is the abbreviation of web of science, which consists of the following important parts: SCIE, scientific citation index; SSCI, social science citation index; CPCI, citation index of conference proceedings; A & index of humanities and arts.
Many authors often confuse wos number with doi number. Doi number is a digital object identifier, which is used to retrieve articles. After sci is published online, there will be a doi number, indicating that the paper has been included, and related papers can be retrieved through the doi number. Wos number is mainly used to retrieve SCI papers and ISTP papers, and now it is unified as UT WOS. Wos numbers can also be used to retrieve articles. In contrast, wos number is more authoritative than doi number, so many colleges and universities will require papers to have wos number.
Second, the relationship between sci and wos
Wos is a database for retrieving sci. If you want to query the retrieval number of sci, you need to log in to wos official website. In wos official website, each paper corresponds to a number equivalent to the identity information of the paper, which is unique. When the paper has wos number, it means that the paper has been included in sci, so the relationship between wos and sci is inseparable.
