Ninth grade Yuan Junxiao Joan
White pollution refers to pollution caused by plastic bags. Because plastic products are very difficult to decompose, discarded plastic products (especially various plastic bags) will bring serious harm to the environment. But unfortunately, the majority of middle school students know little about white pollution and have a weak awareness of environmental protection. They create white pollution every day, eroding the sacred campus. In order to understand and solve the problem of campus white pollution, we conducted some investigations on campus white pollution, trying to find a solution to let middle school students know the harm of white pollution, improve students' awareness of environmental protection, return the campus to a pure land, and promote the prevention and control of white pollution in Qingling Middle School.
First, knowledge about white pollution
1, the harm of white pollution.
The harm of white pollution is manifold. Plastic products buried in the soil have caused great difficulties in farming and sowing, affected the absorption of water and nutrients by crops, polluted groundwater, and reduced or even stopped crop production. If plastics are burned, it will produce a lot of harmful gases and destroy the environment. Dumping plastic in the ocean (it takes 250 years for plastic to decompose in the ocean), if it is eaten by seabirds and fish by mistake, these animals will die, and if it entangles the propellers of some ships, it will cause traffic accidents at sea.
2. At present, international advanced white pollution control methods.
The key to the formation of white pollution is that plastics are not easy to decompose. Therefore, scientists have developed a variety of self-destructive degradable plastics, such as biological self-destructive plastics, chemical self-destructive plastics and medical self-destructive plastics. The guiding ideology of making these plastics is: adding a certain chemical substance into the plastic, so that the plastic can be dissolved or eliminated by light, bacteria or other chemical substances. The common feature of these methods is that they are expensive and cannot compete with cheap non-degradable plastics. We look forward to the early emergence of degradable plastics that can be as cheap as non-degradable plastics and can be recycled.
Second, the investigation situation
(1) Our group randomly selected 50 people from the school to participate in our questionnaire survey, and * * * recovered 45 copies, accounting for 90% (questionnaire schedule). The results are as follows:
Question 1: Do you know what white pollution is?
Among the respondents, 2/3 said they knew about white pollution, and 1/3 said they were unclear. The results show that most middle school students know what white pollution is, which has a lot to do with school education (white pollution has been explained in chemistry textbooks for senior two). However, some people (1/3) are still unclear, which shows that schools should also strengthen education for students.
Question 2: Do you often buy snacks?
7 1. 1% people buy snacks occasionally, 22.2% people often buy snacks, and only 6.7% people don't buy snacks. This is because students rarely have time to eat breakfast at home, so many people come to school to buy food to satisfy their hunger, and most of the food packaging bags are plastic products (see the survey below), which provides a prerequisite for the emergence of white pollution on campus.
Question 3: What do you do with plastic bags?
Only seven people (accounting for 15.6%) threw plastic bags everywhere, and 80% threw them into the dustbin, but this does not mean that most plastic bags went into the dustbin, because according to the observation of our group members, many people always throw them next to the dustbin, even though they know they should. When the wind blows, plastic bags fly all over the campus. It is also worth mentioning that among the two students who chose other students. One man said that he would throw the plastic bags he saw into the trash can. We found that. In the past, there were not many trash cans on campus, and most of them were rusty, heavy and fixed old trash cans, which was very inconvenient. However, after the beginning of this semester, the school increased the number of garbage bins, which helped to prevent white pollution on campus.
Question 4: Please make some suggestions on the treatment of white pollution on campus. The suggestions are as follows:
(1) Schools should educate students to enhance their awareness of environmental protection and publicize the dangers of white pollution.
(2) Students should not throw rubbish at will, and tell people who throw rubbish everywhere the importance of environmental protection.
(3) The school will classify, recycle and centrally treat the garbage.
(4) Add trash cans and put them in places with serious white pollution (such as the entrance of a canteen).
(5) Design an environmental protection sign and hang it in an eye-catching place.
(6) Try to reduce the use of plastic bags to package items, and put an end to the use of disposable foamed lunch boxes (disposable lunch boxes used in school canteens are prohibited by the state, but they are still in use).
(7) Call on the whole society to enhance environmental awareness.
(8) Schools should not burn garbage.
Through this survey, we draw the following conclusions: ① Most students are familiar with white pollution, but some people are still unclear about the concept of white pollution, which requires schools to strengthen environmental education. Although quite a few people know what white pollution is, they still use it or throw it away. It can be seen that it is very important for schools to cultivate students' environmental protection concept, and at the same time, schools should also take practical actions, such as setting more classified garbage bins and organizing the recycling of valuable garbage.
(2) Investigation on white pollution in schools.
Through the last stage of investigation, we investigated students' understanding of white pollution and discussed with our classmates how to prevent white pollution on campus. At this stage, our main purpose is to investigate the situation of white pollution in our school and discuss the feasibility of treatment methods. First of all, our job is to weigh the garbage produced by a class in one day, and sort out the types of garbage and the proportion of white pollution (such as plastic bags and plastic bottles). ), so as to estimate the number of white pollutants produced by the school in one day. Take a class in Grade 8 as an example. This class produces about 2 kilograms of garbage every day. The main ingredients are paper, plastic packaging bags, plastic bottles, cans, foamed lunch boxes and some fruit stones. Among them, there are nearly 100 plastic bags (almost all used for food packaging), 5 plastic bottles, 7 foamed lunch boxes and 2 cans (made of aluminum). It is not difficult to see that food packaging is the main component of white pollution on campus. We also found that both paper and cans can be recycled, and there are also places to recycle waste paper and cans in society at present. So we focus on the recycling of plastics.
At the school garbage station, we met a garbage collector who recycled plastic bottles. Our team members asked him about the purpose and price of recycling, but he didn't answer. In order to inquire about the recycling situation of plastics, our group specially used their spare time to interview the regular waste recycling station in Qingling Middle School, but unfortunately we didn't find a place to recycle plastics. Finally, by searching information on the Internet, we know that plastic can be recycled, but it can't be used as food packaging bags (because of its high cost, it can't guarantee hygiene and safety), and it can only be used as building materials or agricultural greenhouses. It is worth noting that some illegally produced individual small enterprises recycle plastic waste privately, and reuse it after cleaning with some toxic organic solvents, which is harmful to human body. Therefore, when schools sort and recycle garbage, they must send the recycled plastic products to regular recycling units.
Three. conclusion
Through the above investigation, we find that there is white pollution on campus. Take Qingling Middle School as an example. Qingling Middle School has about 4,000 food packaging bags every day, which will make many acres of land lose their farming ability! Moreover, it is very dangerous for students to lack a sense of urgency about white pollution and adopt a disapproving attitude. If everyone thinks so, will there still be land for planting and farming in China in a few years? We middle school students should not turn a blind eye to the social problem of white pollution, but must show the spirit of ownership, actively publicize the harm of white pollution and environmental awareness, and let the whole society have the concept of environmental protection-this is our goal.
Our suggestions:
(1) According to the data of our investigation and investigation, it is suggested that the school should implement a garbage sorting and recycling system. The specific operation methods are as follows: ① Each class should set up a small garbage dump in the class to collect the garbage according to five categories: paper, plastic, metal (such as cans), battery and others. Because there is a lot of paper and plastic, it can be cleaned once a day. In addition, considering the harm of batteries to the environment, students are advised to recycle waste batteries in a unified way. ② The school has set up several large trash cans to recycle the garbage of each class, and set up more small trash cans on campus. The school is responsible for contacting the social recycling unit and sending out the recycled garbage in time. (3) Schools should establish a grading system to encourage classes with good garbage collection. The recovered income can also be returned to each class for use.
(2) It should be noted that in order to truly and fundamentally eliminate white pollution on campus, we must establish the concept of environmental protection in students' minds. Therefore, it is suggested that schools strengthen environmental education, such as collecting environmental protection signs and holding environmental protection singing competitions, so as to make environmental awareness deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
(3) Strengthening environmental education for students is also to promote environmental knowledge to the whole society. Therefore, it is suggested that schools should carry out social-oriented public welfare activities in various ways, such as organizing students to take to the streets to publicize the importance of environmental protection and other knowledge in World Environment Day on April 22nd and June 5th every year. Only when the whole society is talking about environmental protection can we fundamentally prevent white pollution.
