From theory to practice, management science is inseparable from communication from the beginning, and the essence and core of management is communication.
From the perspective of management objects, according to modern classification methods, management objects can be divided into material resources and human resources. Material resources include tangible and intangible materials. The most typical tangible materials are means of production, machinery and equipment, etc. Intangible assets include knowledge and information technology. Broadly speaking, it can also include intangible assets such as brand and goodwill of enterprises. Human resources include all the resources brought by people, including people's knowledge, skills, talents, personality and thoughts. The essence of management is the integration of various object resources, but because various resources (human resources and material resources) are objectively isolated from each other, they cannot be directly combined and connected, so it is necessary for a third party (managers of enterprises) to effectively dispose of and influence them in order to achieve a certain purpose, so as to establish an effective and solid connection between them. All kinds of bridges are needed. Communication is the bridge of these connections, and communication is the effective transmission of information and emotion. A work instruction is communication, and so is a discipline. Any manager who wants to do anything, such as understanding some simple things, is communication, that is, the process of obtaining information.
From the subject of management, management must be communication. The subject of management is a living person. Without giving instructions to the managed object and obtaining information from the managed object, management cannot be effectively implemented. Management is to organize, direct, lead and control others to finish their work correctly and achieve their work goals as planned. Organization, command, leadership and control are all information exchange, that is, communication. Even people and machines need to communicate, that is, man-machine communication: workers need to constantly pay attention to whether the output of the machine reaches the planned goal, so as to confirm and correct the effective work of the machine.
From the perspective of management process, it is also inseparable from communication for a moment: the process of management is the process of resource combination, and the process of combination inevitably depends on the exchange and feedback of a large number of complex resource information and combination information. Without these massive information exchange and feedback, that is, the occurrence and realization of communication, the management process will be interrupted or incomplete, or even out of control.
From the function of management, communication is the main method and way of management. The four management functions recognized by modern management theory are planning, organization, leadership and control, and the realization of any one function is inseparable from communication. The planning process needs to be based on a lot of market research and internal resource analysis and discussion, which are important forms of communication. The formation of the plan is the result of good communication. In addition, the release and correct implementation of the plan need communication. As for organization, leadership and control, their own process is the process of communication. Without communication, how can we organize? Without communication, where is the leader? Without communication, mastery of information and timely feedback, how to control it? Therefore, the essence of management is the process of communication. Under the background of modern information economy, it can be said that management is communication.
