Mr. Wang Xiaju is a famous contemporary calligrapher, who has worked hard in the garden of calligraphy art in China for more than 70 years. He was born in Jianli County, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. His father doesn't read much, but he writes well. When you sit, you scratch the floor. After dinner, you dip your chopsticks in water and write on the table. Your running script is very fancy and beautiful. The villagers asked you to write the words of the shrine at home and the Spring Festival couplets. When Wang Xiaju was a child, he was deeply influenced by his father's works. At the age of 9, he went home for the Spring Festival holiday at school, and the villagers asked him to write Spring Festival couplets. The villagers were surprised that his writing was as good as his father's.
After a long time, Wang Xiaju learned the writing methods and skills from his father, and they were all developed and improved. In addition to writing regular script and running script with a brush, he also scribbles on the ground in his spare time, writes Chinese characters on square bricks with a big brush and practices his wrist strength. Listen to the teacher's calligraphy and read more books on calligraphy and painting theory. I study the calligraphy of Bei Hezheng, Xing and Cao under very difficult conditions every day, dabble in seal script and weeds, and sometimes practice Chinese painting.
Wang Xiaju said that when writing a tablet, you can't write this today and that tomorrow. You must understand the spirit of the tablet before you write anything else. Wang Xiaju's official script mainly studied Zhang Qianbei, Li Bei and Ode to Shimen, and gradually wrote dozens of Han Bei. The characters written in the Northern Wei Dynasty were mainly Zhang Menglong and Li Bibei, and later gradually spread to many other northern Wei Dynasties. Writing cursive script is mainly based on Yan's "Sacrificing My Nephew" and "Contending for Seats", and I also learn cursive script from Wang Xizhi, Li Yong and others.
Wang Xiaju is famous for writing official script and cursive script, so he is still famous for it. His official script is steady, vivid, vigorous and unique, which exudes a spirit that runs through ancient and modern times. His cursive script, flowing, has the charm of Han Wei Bei in it.
Wang Xiaju's profound calligraphy attainments and solid foundation have long been well-known at home and abroad, and he is known as "China Calligrapher" and "Kyoto Great Calligrapher".
"Calligraphers must have their own style." This is Wang Xiaju's consistent view. Studying others' inscriptions hard can only lay the foundation for development, and creating your own style is the real purpose. From Wang Xiaju's works, we can see his profound knowledge and unremitting pursuit, which embodies the rich pen and ink meaning and unique artistic style of a generation of calligraphers.
To be a real calligrapher, we should not only bury ourselves in writing, but also pay special attention to the cultivation of "external work". While studying calligraphy, Wang Xiaju also extensively studied sister arts such as history, literature, poetry, painting and opera, and wrote many papers and poems, which he considered as "works beyond words".
As early as the 1940s, Wang Xiaju held many exhibitions of individual calligraphy and painting in several southern provinces. At that time, many newspapers introduced his calligraphy and painting art one after another, which had a wide influence.
After the "Cultural Revolution", Wang Xiaju participated in many exhibitions of calligraphy and painting at home and abroad. His paintings and calligraphy works have not only appeared in newspapers and periodicals many times, but also been widely welcomed by China's painting and calligraphy lovers, and far welcomed by lovers in Western Europe, North America and Southeast Asia. His works are collected by museums in China and many countries in the world.
1983, Wang Xiaju led a Japanese cultural delegation to visit Japan, and the Japanese calligraphy circle held a grand welcome meeting at the Tokyo Art Museum, and the two sides exchanged views on Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art. Wang Xiaju waved on the spot, and his elegant font and vigorous brushwork were praised by Japanese friends, which enhanced Sino-Japanese friendship.
From 65438 to 0988, Wang Xiaju held a personal painting and calligraphy exhibition in China Art Museum, exhibiting 200 works. During the exhibition, the audience was like a cloud, which became a great event in the book world for a while. These masterpieces fully show his exquisite painting and calligraphy skills and profound "extra-word" skills such as history and poetry.
1990, Sōka Gakkai awarded Wang Xiaju the Fuji Art Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to calligraphy. Mr. Daisaku Ikeda, President of Japanese Sōka Gakkai, got a sentence from Wang Xiaju, praised his calligraphy art greatly, and published Wang Xiaju's original works together with his comments in the newspaper.
