The treatment of allergic rhinitis has proved that EWSC can relieve symptoms.

A large number of people in Taiwan Province Province suffer from allergic rhinitis due to dust mites, and today's medicine can only alleviate discomfort; After years of efforts, the Center for Allergy and Clinical Immunology of the National national cheng kung university Research Center has made great achievements, and developed "a substance with great therapeutic potential-nano-water-soluble chitosan; EWSC), it has been proved that the nasal cavity of allergic rhinitis mice caused by dust mites can slow down inflammatory symptoms and inhibit neuroinflammation, and the effect is extremely significant. It will be introduced into clinical trials as soon as possible in order to benefit more patients.

Professor Wang Zhiyao gave a lecture in Yunping Building, Guangfu Campus, national cheng kung university on May 7th, 2007. On behalf of President Su, the director of national cheng kung university Research Center congratulated the professor. Zhihan Zhang said in his speech that for researchers, besides publishing research papers and displaying research results in important journals, it is more important to hope that research will contribute to society. Professor Wang Zhiyao has done both. His achievements are helpful to family, clinic and life, and I hope to introduce them to the world soon. Chengda has always been a benchmark school for industry-university cooperation. In recent years, in addition to technology transfer, innovation and entrepreneurship have been strengthened. Professor Wang Zhiyao's research results will be transferred to the technical field or a new company will be established, hoping to push the good results of R&D to the society and the world as soon as possible.

"Water-soluble chitosan" is processed chitin, which is natural and non-toxic and is often used in health care products. Professor Wang Zhiyao, director of the Center for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, first used it in the medical field of allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites, and successfully found the treatment mechanism. This research result was published in April 20 17 in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, which is the highest ranked journal in the field of allergy. The newly developed "nano-chitosan (EWSC)" has also applied for an American invention patent.

Professor Wang Zhiyao said that the occurrence of nasal allergy is related to the patient's nerve cells being too sensitive, and it is easy to release allergic substances when encountering the outside world. Animal experiments show that EWSC nasal drops can obviously reduce the allergic substances released by mouse cells with dust mite allergic rhinitis. The further study of nerve growth factor (NGF) in mice showed that EWSC inhibited allergic inflammation by inhibiting the production of NGF, thus producing immunomodulatory effect. The therapeutic mechanism of EWSC comes from the system of inhibiting neuroinflammation.

Professor Wang Zhiyao pointed out that the current drugs for allergic rhinitis, including antihistamines and topical steroid nasal sprays, may bring side effects after long-term use; The scientific community has confirmed that chitosan can be decomposed by cells and absorbed by intestines, mucosal surfaces and skin. In recent three years, we have put chitosan into the research on the treatment of dust mite nasal allergy, and found that chitosan has antibacterial and inhibitory effects on tumor cells, and can also trigger innate immune response of immune cells, thus achieving the effect of antiallergic and asthma treatment.

After confirming that chitosan can reduce the allergic reaction of dust mites, Professor Wang Zhiyao's team further led the international development of nano-sized extremely water-soluble chitosan (EWSC), which was dripped into the nasal cavity of mice with allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites, significantly alleviating the inflammatory symptoms of allergic rhinitis in mice. Professor Wang Zhiyao said that the mice breathed about 350 times per minute, and the nasal congestion (nasal mucosa thickening) of the mice dropped to more than 100 times per minute when allergic rhinitis broke out, and recovered to 350 times per minute after EWSC was given for a period of time.

Professor Wang Zhiyao also said that EWSC has the advantages of being natural, non-toxic and biodegradable, and has great potential to be developed into a nasal spray for treating allergic rhinitis, providing another or additional prevention or treatment method for the existing drugs for treating allergic rhinitis.

Allergic rhinitis is a very common disease in Taiwan Province Province. Almost 4 out of every 65,438+02 children aged 6 to 65,438+02 suffer from this disease, among which allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites accounts for the majority. Taiwan Province Health Insurance spends nearly 10 billion yuan on allergic rhinitis every year. Although allergic rhinitis will not cause fatal danger, it will affect the daily life of patients. If it is not treated properly, it may still be complicated with asthma and increase the mortality rate.
