Most people in China have never seen coffee. Coffee trees only grow in tropical and subtropical regions. This plant is a shade-loving evergreen shrub, which can grow to about 10 m in the wild. Coffee trees have small white flowers and give off the fragrance of jasmine.

People mainly pick its ripe berries and string them like grapes. The coffee fruit is red. After opening, there are two coffee beans, which are coffee seeds. Ripe coffee fruits are picked, soaked, pulped and then dried or dried. Coffee beans with shells are threshed and cleaned to become green coffee beans for sale.

Because coffee has great economic value, people also call coffee beans "green gold". When coffee beans arrive at food processing plants, they must be roasted, ground, added with various ingredients in proportion, and then packaged and delivered.

The origin of coffee is generally recognized as Ethiopia in the East African Plateau, and the word "coffee" comes from Kafa province, which produces coffee in the south of the country.

Legend has it that there is an old herder in Kafa province. One day, when he was herding sheep, he found that his sheep had chewed an unknown fruit. He was so happy and excited. The old man was puzzled and picked one or two fruits and tasted them. As a result, he was as excited as a sheep. The old shepherd and sheep eat coffee berries. Since then, this particularly exciting plant has been planted on the plateau.

This legend is unreliable. According to literature, Arabs successfully introduced coffee from Ethiopia in 100. Arabs who believe in Islam pray many times day and night every day. After drinking coffee, they were excited and energetic, so the habit of drinking coffee soon spread in Muslim areas. Europeans introduced the habit of drinking coffee from Arabs. By the middle of18th century, coffee shops had mushroomed in many European cities.

Countries that consume a lot of coffee are mainly concentrated in Europe and America. According to statistics, there are1500 million people drinking coffee in the world. Coffee drinkers in the United States account for about 55.2% of the population. Italy consumes 4 kilograms of coffee per capita every year, and the whole country spends 4 billion dollars on it every year.

The countries producing coffee are mainly concentrated in the southern hemisphere. There are more than 50 coffee producing countries in the world, with Brazil, Colombia and Indonesia as the leading countries. Among them, Brazil's coffee production accounts for about one-third of the world's total output and is known as the "coffee kingdom".

The annual output of coffee in the world has exceeded 6 million tons, and the total annual trade volume has reached 25 billion US dollars, which has become an important trade exchange in the international market.

There is no coffee in China. 1884 was introduced to Taiwan Province Province and then planted in Hainan Island and Yunnan. In recent years, coffee cultivation has gradually spread to Fujian and Guangdong.

The varieties of coffee are usually divided into large, medium and small grains according to the size of the fruit. Hainan Island is suitable for planting medium-sized seeds, while Yunnan is suitable for planting small-sized seeds. Scientists believe that the best coffee producing area in the world lies between the north latitude 15 degrees and the tropic of cancer, and the southern part of Yunnan Province is located in this golden zone. Coffee produced in Yunnan is listed as a valuable coffee in the United States, and its price is higher than that of products from Colombia, Indonesia and Turkey. Experts believe that Yunnan coffee is a world-class coffee, with outstanding characteristics such as strong but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, and a little fruity.
