What is the background of Chang Shuhong?
Chang Shuhong, an artist.

Chang Shuhong (1April 6, 904-1June 23, 994) was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. China painter and expert in Dunhuang studies. He used to be the director of Dunhuang Art Research Institute and Dunhuang Cultural Relics Research Institute (later renamed Dunhuang Research Institute).

Chang Shuhong has made great contributions to the protection and research of Dunhuang art. During his decades of hard work, he organized the restoration of murals, collected and sorted out scattered cultural relics, and wrote a number of papers with high academic value.

He also copied a large number of exquisite murals, held many large-scale exhibitions, published albums, and introduced Dunhuang art to more people. His dedication was highly praised and he made outstanding contributions to the protection and research of the Mogao Grottoes.

Chang Shuhong loved art since he was a child, and his father, who believed in saving the country through industry, stubbornly sent him to an industrial school. In desperation, he chose the dyeing and weaving major related to painting and participated in the West Lake Painting Festival organized by painter Feng Zikai and others.

Artistic attainments:

1934, "China Artists Association" was established, with more than 20 participants including Chang Shuhong, Wang Linyi, Lv Sibai, Liu Kaiqu, Chen Zhixiu, Wang Ziyun and Yu Binglie.

During this period, Chang Shuhong's oil paintings, such as Dressing, Sick Woman, Naked Woman, Still Life Painting and Grape, participated in the French National Salon Exhibition for many times. Grape was later selected by the then French Deputy Minister of Education and nationalized by France. The Portrait of Shana is collected by the Museum of Modern Art in Paris (currently in Pompidou Art and Culture Center).

Naked Woman 1934 Lyon Spring Salon Exhibition won the gold medal of Artists Association and was collected. It is now in the National Museum of Art in Lyon. Chang Shuhong won three gold medals, two silver medals and an honorary prize in the French national salon exhibition, and thus became a member of the French Artists Association and the French Portrait Painters Association.

During the decades of hard life in Chang Shuhong, he experienced all kinds of misfortunes and blows and overcame unimaginable difficulties, but he still resolutely devoted himself to protecting the Mogao Grottoes.
