Wu Yishi
To build an atomic bomb, we must first build a "type A separation membrane", which is the core component of extracting enriched uranium. Premier Zhou Enlai asked Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute, Shenyang Metal Research Institute, Fudan University and Beijing Institute of Atomic Energy to carry out research at all costs in five or six years to overcome difficulties. The development of "A-type separation membrane" was called the "vacuum valve" project, but at that time, the four units were scattered, repeated work and inconvenient communication, which hindered the development progress. The Premier personally found Ke Qingshi, the first secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee, and the leader of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave an account of the task. The Chinese Academy of Sciences concentrated the development task on Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute, and informed other separation membrane research groups to report to Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute after 196 1 Spring Festival. As a result, more than 60 expert groups became Shanghai Metallurgical Institute 10 laboratory, which was called 7 branches. Wu Ren, then deputy director of Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute, served as director of the office and general manager of technology. The seventh division consists of three groups, each of which cooperates with each other to tackle key problems together.

Thinking of the sensation caused by the success of the atomic bomb explosion in the United States, Wu felt honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the manufacture of nuclear fuel and atomic bombs in his country. He dropped his long-planned research project and threw himself into the battle. For more than three years, he has basically never left the laboratory, checking the progress of each group every day and solving various problems at any time. At that time, I worked 10 hours a day, and I didn't rest during the Chinese New Year holidays. At that time, the country was in a difficult period. Wu and his comrades lived in a dormitory and ate a big canteen. It's hard to see "meat and fish" for a few days. During the period of 1963, leaders from Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai and other countries made a special trip to Shanghai to listen to the work report of Metallurgical Research Institute. The second engine department often sends people to check the progress of the work. At the end of 1963, Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute officially reported: "Heart has been conquered and can be mass-produced in medium-sized factories; The performance of the module is good, exceeding that of the Soviet module; The cost is only 1% of the original estimated gold price! " China has become the fourth country in the world besides the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union to independently master the production technology of enriched uranium, and has made important contributions to the independent development of China's nuclear weapons and nuclear industry.

On June 6th 1964 10 16, the first "mushroom cloud" rose in Lop Nur, northwest China. This is a day that Wu will never forget. Wu is a snake, only 20 days away from the Year of the Horse. He said, "I'd rather be a horse. I'm old and ambitious."

In his later years, he worked tirelessly to study the diffusion behavior of oxygen in high temperature superconducting oxides. Even when he was lying in a hospital bed, Mr. Wu kept thinking about things in the laboratory. During the hospitalization, as long as the students come to visit him, he will ask the students to provide documents and materials in a weak voice, hoping to organize personnel to continue the research before hospitalization. ...

Using a classical research method of material physics, the research group studied the microstructure of high-temperature superconductors that were just discovered and very popular at that time, and achieved good experimental results. I want to post an article right away. However, Wu repeatedly discussed with the researchers, from the experimental device to the experimental results, from the result analysis to the physical model, and reached the final conclusion. Revised five or six drafts before and after. A few months later, the article written by Mr. Wu himself was finally finalized, which was beyond recognition compared with the first draft. This paper was published in the American Physical Review on 1989, which quickly gained the attention of international peers, and still maintains a fairly high citation rate of single papers.

While tackling key problems in scientific research, he also taught many courses, worked hard to cultivate young and middle-aged scientific and technological talents, cared about the growth of young people enthusiastically, and made outstanding contributions to the discipline construction and the cultivation of innovative talents in China. Wu, a former native of Wupujiang County, is his cousin and a famous painter in China. After finishing primary school in Pujiang, he was admitted to Hangzhou No.1 Middle School with excellent results, and then went to Hangzhou High School. 1937 graduated from Tianjin Beiyang university, majoring in aviation engineering, and later worked as a designer and engineer in Lei Yun Central Aircraft Factory and Kunming Central Machine Factory.

1943, shortly after Wu joined the work, his factory was dissolved due to the war. He was told that if he wanted to return to his old job, he must join the Kuomintang. Ning Wu would never join the Kuomintang. The Kuomintang Aviation Committee dismissed him and "never hired him" on the grounds of "failing to report for duty within the time limit". Wu plans to study in the United States at his own expense with the support of his elder sister, who was then a doctor, and plans to study in the aviation department of MIT. However, after the Kuomintang Aviation Committee "never hired" him, he had to change careers. Wu was recommended by the former director of Central Machinery Factory to work as a teaching assistant at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, India (now Carnegie Mellon University), the director's alma mater, to study physical metallurgy.

After studying hard for 4 years in the Metallurgy Department of Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, USA, Wu received his doctor of science degree from 65438 to 0948, and stayed there as a postdoctoral researcher at the Metal Research Institute. 1949, worked as a research engineer in the department of materials, Xilin Laqiu University, and returned to China at the end of 1950. Academician Wu, the founder of "two bombs and one satellite", has been dealing with metal physical materials all his life, but his "normal heart" has not changed, and his childlike innocence has not disappeared. In his later years, Wu did not hesitate to spend 20 yuan's "huge sum" to buy a "call brother" from the free market, that is, the fruit. As soon as his wife heard that he bought such a small thing, she actually spent a penny or two on pork, and immediately severely criticized him. "This little thing can be bought by others for 2 yuan!" However, the old scientist who can build an atomic bomb smiled proudly like a child: "20 yuan is not expensive, this little guy sounds good!" "

It's nice to call my brother and have a nice voice. The old couple both like this little thing and compete to feed it with edamame. Who knows, after a few days, my younger brother, who was still screaming happily, gradually stopped screaming! Wu looked carefully at holding a edamame in a cage with two front paws, calling his brother silently and observing.

"Old man, haven't you even studied the atomic bomb?" The wife standing by half jokingly said, "Why don't you call this Guo Guo? Much simpler than your atomic bomb. Just give research! "

As usual, this wife's words are completely unnecessary. Spend at most 20 yuan to buy one! Wu's name is true. He carefully observed and tried to control the consumption of small things, but suddenly he made a "major discovery"! It turns out that this Guo Guo's appetite is quite difficult to serve. He refuses to scream when he eats less, and he is too lazy to scream when he eats more. After repeated experiments, he came to a rule: "feeding one edamame a day is too little, feeding three edamame a day is too much, and feeding two edamame a day is just right."

He told his wife about his "research results", and both of them strictly followed them. This makes his brother not only scream again, but also scream more happily, which sounds better than before!

As a result, this well-known expert in metal physical materials at home and abroad has won the reputation of "national fruit expert". Wu wrote in the memoir Diary of the Iron Man written before his death: "Before I was 80 years old, I was a chain and was hung on many tasks. I have overfulfilled every task and can be called a high-quality' chain person'! " Recalling his experience in developing the "A-type separation membrane", he wrote: "Chairman Mao called Nie Rongzhen, the scientific marshal, to personally arrange the task of building an atomic bomb. At that time, this task was called' two bombs and one arrow'. Zhang Jinfu, secretary of the Party Committee of China Academy of Sciences, has a pocket full of chains to complete this big project. " The success of the atomic bomb exploded and the whole country rejoiced. I finally breathed a sigh of relief and finally completed the glorious mission of' chain' people. ""This move has also caused a great sensation abroad. Nixon also surrendered with a white flag, and Chairman Mao's face was full of the joy of the winner! This is enough for a lifetime! "

Wu is very modest and never cares about personal gain or loss. Because the development of "Type A separation membrane" is highly confidential, he has not disclosed it to the outside world for a long time. 1999, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council and the Central Military Commission awarded 23 scientists the Medal of Meritorious Service of "Two Bombs and One Satellite", and Wu was the only person in Shanghai who won this honor. After winning the prize, Wu repeatedly said that he would donate the "two bombs and one satellite" meritorious medal to the institute. He said that the honor belongs to everyone, not to me alone. I'm just a representative. On May 29th, 2008, his wife and sons Wu Kangqi and Wu fulfilled his long-cherished wish.
