During the period of 1964, the Ministry of Railways summarized and exchanged the experience of through trains from 9 stations of Boshan to Badou branch line in Zhangdian Depot of Jinan Railway Bureau and the experience of through trains from receiving and dispatching units, arrival stations and front marshalling stations compiled by Daxie Station. By 1965, the proportion of the total number of cars loaded by the all-way through trains increased from 22.9% at 1957 to 28.9%. In the early 1980s, there were innovations and improvements in the organization and direct transportation of the whole railway. For example, Daxie Station compiles high-quality through trains according to the requirements of the arrival cargo area and the consignee, Zhangdian and Luozhou Locomotive Depot organize intermediate stations to jointly compile single or multi-category through trains, Qinyang Station implements the "four unifications" (unified cargo location, unified delivery, unified planning and unified settlement) organization mode of loading through trains, and Tangshan Station has many organizations. The proportion of through trains in the whole railway has increased from 33.7% in 1982 to 45% in 1985. In the past three years, there have been 8 17663 through trains, including 245298 long-distance through trains, which can reduce the number of transit trains by more than 40000 every day, which is equivalent to three times the workload of Zhengzhou North Marshalling Station at that time.

He attaches great importance to optimizing the traffic organization of technical stations and rational division of labor in marshalling stations. Computer-aided technology is used to calculate the train formation plan, and the optimized and feasible plan is selected in close connection with the actual operation of the marshalling station. Thus, the load of refitted operation vehicles at marshalling stations in the whole railway is coordinated, and the number of technical through trains undertaken by marshalling stations is increased. The ratio of transfer vehicles to the total transfer vehicles in the whole railway operation without adaptation has also increased from 25% of 1962 to 56% of 1990, which has eased the situation of tight operation capacity of marshalling stations.

At the same time, starting with passenger flow and freight flow, we should arrange passenger and freight trains reasonably, strengthen traffic organization, extend locomotive routing, adjust the layout of train inspection, improve the allowable speed of the line, organize new line diversion, coordinate point-line capacity, and connect passenger and freight trains at the boundary. And strengthen the work organization of all links in the transportation process, so that the weight, speed and density of trains on busy trunk lines with tight capacity can be better combined, and the role of trunk line transportation can be fully exerted. In the compilation of train diagram, he paid attention to reform and innovation, popularized and implemented a number of innovative and far-reaching transportation organization methods, which became the new content and system of railway transportation work and achieved good benefits. In order to improve the standardization level of China's railway transportation operation and connect with international standardization work, Wu Feng organized railway experts to conduct in-depth field investigation and study based on the national conditions and road conditions, refer to international standards, sort out and analyze a large number of practical data, start with standardizing procedures, actions and terms, and make overall arrangements for the whole operation process in line with the principles of unity, coordination, precision and optimization. According to the blocking system, interlocking type and labor organization form, seven standards, such as automatic double-line blocking electric centralized interlocking, single-line and double-line semi-automatic blocking electric centralized interlocking, single-line and double-line semi-automatic colored light interlocking, single-line and double-line electric lock interlocking, and single-line and double-line interlocking telephone blocking, were compiled respectively as the standards of TB 1500 ~ 1506-84 "Operation Standards for Receiving and Sending Trains" of the Ministry of Railways. Subsequently, he presided over the formulation of the railway shunting operation standard, which was approved and promulgated as the national standard GB 7578-87 in July 1987. This standard includes nine standards such as mechanized hump, simple hump, plane drawing line, marshalling train, train pick-up, pick-up and parking operation. Covers all kinds of shunting operations, unifies the railway shunting operation method, and is suitable for all shunting operations such as national railways, joint-venture railways, local railways, special railways and special lines.

1982, after attending the second international conference on heavy-haul transportation, Wu Feng published a paper on railway heavy-haul transportation. It is proposed that China's railways should learn from each other's strong points to develop heavy-haul transportation and take their own characteristic road, and it is envisaged that various types of heavy-haul trains will be organized according to the specific conditions of each line: 10,000-ton heavy-haul unit trains will be operated on the newly-built special line for coal transportation; On the existing trunk lines with large traffic volume, combined trains or overweight trains with daily routine running weight of 4500 ~ 5000 tons or more can be organized; On the single-track line of double-track reconstruction, when there are some double-track sections, some overweight trains or combined trains can also be operated; In order to reduce the interaction between construction and transportation, a small number of combined trains or overweight trains can be operated in a planned way in the process of double-line electrochemical construction or in the process of extending the effective length of the station line on busy trunk lines. These viewpoints and conclusions are of guiding and practical significance to the development of heavy-haul transportation in China. He not only actively participated in the experimental research on the construction and operation of Daqin coal transportation special line, but also paid attention to organizing and promoting the operation of two 7,400-ton combined heavy-haul trains from Datong West Station to Qinhuangdao Station, Shijiazhuang Station to Jinan West Station and Shanhaiguan Station to Shenyang West Station in Shanxi coal transportation corridor, and incorporated them into the train operation diagram from 1985, which runs according to the diagram every day and achieved good operation benefits.

At the end of 1980s, the introduction of western marketing theory attracted the attention of Chinese railway academic and business circles. Entrusted by the School of Transportation, Northern Jiaotong University, the author researched and wrote "Transportation Product Strategy", as an important content of the book "Transportation Marketing", which clarified the connotation of "transportation product", provided practical teaching materials for comprehensively understanding and accurately grasping passenger and cargo products, and laid a theoretical foundation for developing passenger and cargo marketing.
