Fan Jinshi first put forward the idea of using computer technology to realize the permanent preservation of Dunhuang murals and colored sculptures. She organized Dunhuang Research Institute and Zhejiang University to apply for the National Natural Science Foundation project "Multimedia and Intelligent Technology Integration and Art Restoration". This project focuses on Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, which is the first time that Mogao Grottoes are presented to people with multimedia and intelligent technology.
Since the mid-1980s, Fan Jinshi has actively sought international cooperation in the protection and research of Dunhuang Grottoes.
