The history of Greek comedy
In ancient Greece, penis worship (Dionysus worship, a kind of male reproductive worship) was very common, with many sects and different celebration ceremonies [2]. During the grape harvest season, farmers organize song and dance teams to celebrate. Some of them pretend to be wild animals or orcs (half man and half beast), and some pretend to be fat people. Besides walking, some of them ride animals, some walk on stilts, and some hold long poles with exaggerated penis shapes hanging on them. This group of people sang and danced as they walked. Besides singing the deeds of Dionysus, they also improvised songs and dances according to current events or jokes, and laughed and amused the audience along the way. I don't know when the leader of a team is about to improvise on a whim, so the first actor is produced, which is similar to the origin of tragedy.

This performance is a joyful and noisy scene, including mutual teasing and banter, and sometimes the language even reaches the level of obscenity. This forms a completely different style from tragedy, which is regarded as a low-level performance and can only be used as an ornament and foil on the stage, which is one of the reasons why comedy scripts are rarely handed down.

In 487 BC, Athens officially decided to add a comedy competition to the bacchanalia in the spring, which was the official affirmation of comedy and the beginning of comedy's historical record. Therefore, the comedy was officially staged, nearly half a century later than the tragedy.

In the 5th century BC, there were two main forms of comedy in ancient Greece. One is "Sicilian comedy", represented by Epicurus' drama, and there may be no chorus. The other is "Attica Comedy", with 24 chorus members.
