The Second World Congress of Confucianism
From September 27th to 29th, 2009, the Second World Congress of Confucianism was held at the Confucius Institute in China. The Second World Congress of Confucianism was jointly organized by China Academy of Art, Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, Jining Municipal People's Government, Confucius Institute in china confucius foundation, international confucian association and China, and came from 26 countries including Chinese mainland, Hongkong, Macau, Taiwan Province Province, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Spain, Slovakia, the United States, Brazil and Australia. Chang Keren, former head of the Discipline Inspection Team of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in the Ministry of Culture, Vice Governor of Shandong Province, Assistant Dean of China Academy of Art, Director of the Cultural Development Strategy Research Center Jia, Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Secretary-General of the World Confucianism Conference Kang Qingquan, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture Liang Guodian, Secretary of the china confucius foundation Discipline Inspection Commission, Chairman international confucian association Zhang Weidong, President of Sungkyunkwan Central University Xu Zhengdun, Deputy Secretary-General of international confucian association Niu Xiping, Secretary of the Jining Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress.

The Second World Congress of Confucianism was adopted by Du Weiming (Harvard University), Zheng Zhongying (University of Hawaii), Fan Ceng (China Academy of Fine Arts), May John (Australian National University), Takeuchi Hiroyuki (Nagoya University), Liang Chengwu (Central University of Korea), Montenegro (Slovak Academy of Sciences), Dong Jinyu (Taiwan Province University of Political Science, China) and Meng Peiyuan (China Academy of Social Sciences). The presidium of the Second World Congress of Confucianism consists of 15 people, namely: Zhou Guidian (China Beijing Normal University), Shu Dagang (China Sichuan University), Yu Ronggen (China Southwest University of Political Science and Law), Fu Yongju (China Qufu Normal University), Jia (China Academy of Fine Arts) and Confucius Institute in China. Famous scholars Du Weiming, Zheng Zhongying, Liang Chengwu and Fan Ceng gave keynote speeches at the meeting. Subsequently, the delegates held academic discussions in three groups around topics such as the inheritance and development of Confucianism, Confucianism and economic development, Confucianism and contemporary artistic creation under the multicultural background.

The 2009 Confucius Cultural Award was established at the Second World Congress of Confucianism, aiming at encouraging Confucian researchers, institutions or non-governmental organizations around the world to explore and study the essence of Confucius' thought and culture from the height of the times, accelerating the continuous innovation of Confucian research achievements, strengthening the international exchange of Confucian research achievements, promoting the inheritance and popularization of Confucian culture, and promoting the harmonious development and civilized progress of human society. On the basis of fully evaluating the academic achievements and major contributions of the candidates, the second Confucian Congress voted the candidates by secret ballot in the form of differential election, and selected the winner of the 2009 Confucius Culture Award as Mr. Du Weiming, President of Yanjing Society of Harvard University and President of china confucius foundation.

The Second World Congress of Confucianism lasts for three days. After academic discussions, the delegates visited Nishan, Confucius Temple, Confucius House and Confucius Forest, attended the ceremony of offering sacrifices to Confucius in 2009, watched the opening ceremony of the 2009 China (Qufu) International Confucius Culture Festival, watched the large-scale original dance drama Ode to Confucius and the film Silver Empire directed by the famous director Hu Mei. The conference has achieved fruitful academic results, and the academic papers of the Second World Congress of Confucianism are being collected and published.
