The ancient city wall of Liaocheng was demolished due to the reconstruction of the ancient city. In 2009, Liaocheng started the reconstruction plan of the ancient city, but it was not carried out according to the master plan compiled by the expert group of Tongji University. Instead, a large area of old streets was demolished and a large number of antique houses were built. Although the basic pattern of Liaocheng ancient streets and lanes is still there, the buildings inside have basically changed.
