Huai 'an, formerly known as Huaiyin, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, located in the north-central part of Jiangsu Province and the east of Jianghuai Plain. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, it is an important central city in northern Jiangsu, a modern central city in the northern part of the Yangtze River Delta, a member city of Nanjing metropolitan area, and the first city in the Huaihe River eco-economic belt.
Located at the intersection of the ancient Huaihe River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, on the Qinling Huaihe River, the north-south boundary line of China, Hongze Lake, the fourth largest freshwater lake in China, is a national civilized city, a national historical and cultural city, a national sanitary city, a national garden city, a national environmental protection model city and a national low-carbon pilot city.
Huaian city
Huaian has a history of more than 2200 years. Originally in Huaiyin County, Sishui, it now governs Matou Town, Huaiyin County. There is a site of "Qingliangang Culture" in the territory. It used to be the hub of grain transportation and salt transportation, with the governor's office of grain transportation and the governor's office of Jiangnan River. Historically, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Yangzhou have been called "Four Metropolis" along the canal, "the land where southern ships meet northern Malaysia" and have the reputation of "China Canal Capital".
The Huai 'an section of the Grand Canal in China has been included in the World Heritage List. By the end of 20021,the permanent population of Huai' an was 4,556,230. In history, Mei Cheng, the master of Han Fu, Liang Hongyu, the heroine, Wu Cheng'en, the author of The Journey to the West, Guan Tianpei, the national hero, and Liu E, the author of Travel Notes of Lao Can, were born.
