I am a graduate of Nanjing University Business School in Grade 05, and I have graduated for some time. During the period, I always wanted to enter a world-class consulting enterprise and experienced many interviews and setbacks. Although they all ended in failure, I still gained something. I wrote it down. First, I want to encourage my classmates who are looking for jobs now. The second is to give some experiences and lessons to the younger brothers and sisters who want to enter the world's top consulting investment banks in the future.
E-mail notification interview
Mckinsey is strange. It is e-mail that informs the interview. 56 people were selected for the first interview. Before the first interview, there was a written test called McKinsey caselets, which was actually written by ets.
Many cases in it are similar to those provided on the websites of several major consulting companies. As long as it can be integrated, it is not difficult to do the problem, but the reading volume is quite large. I took the gmat and finished it 20 minutes early.
There will be a reception before the interview after the written test, which will not affect whether you enter the next round of interview, just like the written test.
This kind of reception means that some McKinsey calves come out to meet their classmates, introduce what McKinsey's case interview is like and advertise. Personally, I think McKinsey is very human and attaches great importance to users. At this time, I will send you an interview schedule. Let me have a look. More than half of them are returnees, many of whom graduated from Oxford and Cambridge. Pretty scary.
The first interview felt good.
I went for an interview at one o'clock the next afternoon. McKinsey has three interviews, each with two interviewers. Each round includes behavioral interviews and case interviews. The first person who interviewed me was a global vice president. She was very serious when chatting, and I had nothing to talk about. I said everything I could. Then she gave me a case about a mobile phone manufacturer entering the China market, and the whole process was not bad.
The second is a senior consultant. I think he is the best one I have performed in front of all the interviewers. Let me talk about my experience first, during which he asked some tricky questions, and I answered them very well, which made him think I was awesome. Now I am embarrassed to recall. I talked for too long, so I made a case of a brain teacher. He asked me, what would the world be like if oil could be unlimited? Talked a lot about economy, politics and humanities. Finally, he said that if he were me, he would only talk about the environment. I was so sad. I didn't expect such an answer. But it doesn't matter. I feel as if he was satisfied with me in the end.
Re-examination was eliminated
A total of 27 people participated in the second interview, and more than half of them were eliminated. To my surprise, one Cambridge student was rejected, and the other who got BCG offer was also rejected. But one mistake I made was that when I heard some big cows in Shanghai discussing how to choose among several giant cattle companies, my self-confidence was hit hard, and I was afraid of that momentum. Therefore, I advise all the students in the interview not to be influenced by others.
This interview is also the global deputy director and senior consultant. Basically the same as the first round, but the situation is different. Someone asked me a question about the company's financial cash flow. I think I answered very well. The tragedy happened to the vice president of the world. He looked at my resume casually and kept rubbing his eyes. Maybe he interviewed a lot of people and felt tired. Then he asked me about a case where the company was undervalued, and I had to find out whether there was a problem with income or expenditure. I answered without thinking, the labor cost of a company in China is lower than that of similar companies in the United States, which has laid a curse. Because in fact, that company in America employs fewer people. Therefore, students who have the opportunity to interview in the future must be careful not to draw conclusions too quickly. In short, we must exhaust it before we can draw a conclusion. Consultation is actually not difficult, that is, be careful and broad-minded.
In this way, the second interview was rejected, which is a pity. After all, I am consulting before the interview, and I really want to work for my boss in this industry.
My painful experience
I said so much. To sum up, I hope to help my younger brothers and sisters in the future:
First, we should learn our grades well. Not only for that GPA, what you learned in business school will always be useful. I just didn't have a solid basic skill, so I made a simple but fatal mistake in accounting.
Second, you don't have to join the student union to participate in extracurricular activities. As long as you like it, you can make achievements.
Third, learn English well, whether it is spoken English or reading and logic. Personally, I have a suggestion that business school students might as well learn gmat, which is very helpful for a person to master English and English logic. And in the future, many companies looking for jobs will have questions similar to these. Now even the civil service exam is China's GRE logic (GMAT logic and GRE are one idea).
Fourth, the resume should be beautifully written and have highlights. Remember that resumes are not for reading. You should show it to others for three seconds and let them tell you what they can remember. Blow, but don't go too far. You should be prepared to say something, because the interviewer is an expert in this field, and you will be exposed at once. (End)
