During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the exchange of materials between Tibetans and Hans reached the Dadu River by ferry or zip line, and sometimes it was impossible to cross the river in time. There are mountains of goods on both sides of the Dadu River, and some fresh foods (such as delicacies, meat dishes, etc.) rot because they can't cross the river, and frequent dispatch of troops has formed an obstruction here.
2. In September of the forty-fourth year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1705), in order to unify the whole country and solve the problem of blocked roads leading to Tibetan areas in Han areas, Emperor Kangxi ordered the construction of the first bridge on Dadu River.
3. In April (1706), the first bridge of Dadu River was completed. Emperor Kangxi wrote the letter "Luding Bridge" with the words "Lushui" (that is, Dadu River was called "desert water" and Kangxi mistakenly thought it was "Lushui") and "Pingding" (pacifying the rebellion of the local toast). Luding Bridge began to become a link between Tibet and Han nationality, hence the name Luding County.

In July and March, 1974, National Cultural Heritage Administration, China allocated funds to overhaul Luding Bridge. When it was about to be completed, the handrail chain on the upstream side suddenly broke, which triggered a chain reaction. Three chains were broken, which caused the deck to tilt and the maintenance tools placed on the deck fell into the river.
8. 1975, a domestic veteran organized a visit to Luding Bridge. After dozens of people boarded the bridge, three of the nine bottom chains suddenly broke and the deck was tilted at 45 degrees.
9. In 2003, with the approval of the former Ministry of Construction of People's Republic of China (PRC), Luding Bridge Scenic Area was established.
