In 2000, Bishop Fan Zhongliang succeeded Bishop Kong Bingmei as Bishop of Shanghai Diocese and became Dean of Chinese mainland Bishop College.
Under the leadership of Bishop Jin Luxian, Shanghai Parish has become one of the most active official parishes in Chinese mainland, with the number of Catholics reaching 6,543,800+500,000. Bishop Jin took the lead in restoring temples in Shanghai. At the same time, it is also the most advanced monastery in China.
Jin Luxian speaks many languages, and met many overseas China church leaders and people who care about overseas human rights and religious freedom, such as Cardinal Chen Rijun, priests, US President Bill Clinton and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In 2004, Bishop Jin was recognized by the Holy See as an assistant bishop of Shanghai diocese.
