It is the hardest for liberal arts students to find jobs, especially liberal arts students.
The joy and embarrassment of normal girls
In 2009, Cai was undoubtedly lucky. What makes her most happy is that she applied for the Chinese language and literature major (normal school) in the college entrance examination. With the advantage of English major, she passed CET-4 in her sophomore year and TEM-8 in her junior year next semester. From June 5438 to February 2009, she successfully found her ideal job and worked as a teacher in a key middle school in a province.
But the teacher elder sister Fan Xin is far from so lucky. Because there is no outstanding English advantage like Cai, I found that there are many talents around me when I graduated. Others either recite a pile of calligraphy when applying for a job, or have a pile of published articles, or have a picture album published specifically for finding a job ... and she couldn't even find a decent major, so she worked hard for a year and didn't even find a formal job.
Perhaps, in modern China, due to the lack of science and technology, it was badly beaten. Later, mathematics and physics were especially advocated in education. Liberal arts has always been regarded as "rote learning", and only those who can't learn science well will choose liberal arts. When they arrive at the university, liberal arts students give people the impression that they are just "gangsters". They are not as practical and promising as science students. Majors such as Chinese Language and Literature (Teachers' College) are "a large number of students and bleak employment prospects". Girls choose this kind of major, but most of them can't find a teacher to be a clerk in the company, and they are not as good as some beautiful high school girls in the interview competition.
I have traveled all over Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Shunde and other places and participated in more than ten interviews. Fan Xin was disheartened that my employer didn't offer me an olive branch. Hey, who says she's a girl? It turns out that in recent years, media reports have repeatedly mentioned that primary and secondary schools are now "yin flourishes while yang declines", with too many female teachers and a serious shortage of male teachers. Employers in urgent need of fresh blood are mostly "limited to men" in recruitment requirements. In desperation, Fan Xin can only find a substitute teacher in a remote village in Baoan District, Shenzhen. On weekdays, when I am bored at work, I surf the Internet and see others posting comments on the Internet: "I killed pigs in my last life and taught in my life. I killed people in my last life and taught Chinese in my life. " Fan Xin was particularly upset after shaking his head and laughing: Why do you want to choose a normal major? Isn't this asking for trouble? It rained all night, and Guangdong proposed to solve the problem of substitute teachers during Teachers' Day in 2008. A large number of unqualified substitute teachers will be dismissed. In desperation, Fan Xin had to "make way" for the senior substitute teacher in the school, left the school he had just adapted to and embarked on the journey of finding a job. Helpless, just because I chose a Chinese teacher, I am surrounded by strong hands, and there are many female teachers in the school. Others don't recruit! Who told me I was born a girl? I can't wait to go to Korea for sex-change plastic surgery.
Different from his fate, Chen Jiazi, another boy in Cai's class, took a big advantage. At the on-site job fair in June 5438+February, he only submitted a resume, and felt that the scene was too crowded and tired to bear, so he simply went back to the dormitory to watch a movie. Unexpectedly, this resume helped him successfully find a municipal key middle school in Wuhan, signed an employment agreement before New Year's Day, and became the first classmate in the class to find a job. No wonder other schools want to recruit a man, and other excellent competitors are all girls, so naturally they have not entered the school's field of vision. Girl, sometimes I have to admit that this is an "untimely birth", and everything depends on opportunities.
The lament of female students in the administrative department
Zhuo Wenjun majored in administration, but now she has the problem of finding a job. Zhuo's high school head teacher often expresses her admiration for the treatment and welfare of national civil servants in class. Therefore, when filling in the university volunteer, Wen Juan chose the major of "Administration" without hesitation, hoping to find a job in a public institution, enjoy the leisure time of the public institution and live a comfortable life upon graduation.
Zhuo Wenjuan insisted on learning "administrative management" for several reasons: first, my cousin is a white-collar worker in a foreign company and manages hundreds of people, which is simply ideal; Second, my uncle is a rich entrepreneur and is familiar with local leaders. If you are looking for a job, saying hello may help a lot. Third, the economic environment at that time was very good, and both at home and abroad showed a thriving development trend.
However, people are not as good as heaven. The "financial crisis" that broke out in 2009 affected Zhuo Wenjun's family. Not only did his family owe the national student loan when he went to college, but even his uncle went bankrupt, which could not continue the glory of local entrepreneurs. In desperation, Wen Juan had to set foot in the talent market. The result of looking for a needle in a haystack is laborious and time-consuming, and there is no substantive progress. Finally, she found a small company in a small county in northern Hubei, so make plans for her life. Like Wen Juan, there are countless girls who walk into the "ivory tower" with lofty ideals and end up "unemployed". The current job market is such a trend. How can so many units give you a mere undergraduate to "manage"? In addition, I am a gentle and honest girl. It's almost the same to come out and be in charge of others!
This is the reality, because science and engineering emphasize technology and deal with tools and machines all day, which is more rigorous and pragmatic. However, liberal arts students pay more attention to interpersonal relationship and social communication, so in their eyes, contacts and interpersonal relationships are more important, followed by knowledge and self-cultivation.
The Confusion of Secretary Girls in China
Xu Suzhen was born in a remote rural family in western Yunnan. Her mother died of illness in her early years, and all three brothers and sisters were raised by her father, which also cultivated Su Zhen's introverted personality. She hesitated when she was in college. She is the head of the family and a woman. Should she go to school? Finally, I crustily skin of head went to school. When I entered the exam, I listened to my father's suggestion and filled in the Chinese secretarial major.
Near graduation from college, Su Zhen searched the Internet for a long time and interviewed many companies, but for various reasons, she was unable to sign a suitable unit. Finally, I saw a good job: a transportation bureau recruited a secretary, requiring a bachelor's degree, limited to women. Other requirements are in line with Xu Suzhen's mind, especially the requirement of "women only" is like giving her a shot in the arm, which seems to be "God never shuts one door but he opens another"!
I went to my employer with confidence. After a simple interview, the leader in charge of personnel asked, "How do you drink?" This question made Su Zhen very embarrassed. She said that she would drink. She is a little girl who is a little dizzy at the smell of wine, so she can't lie. Said not to drink. Unfortunately, when you see the upcoming works, you may slip away from your own hands. It's too late to think too much. Within a few seconds, I made an incredible decision: "I can drink, no problem!" " "
After the interview, Su Zhen was awakened by the cold wind. She quickly turned and ran back to the interviewer and added, "Forget it, I really can't drink any more." In fact, there are some embarrassing places for girls to choose Chinese secretarial major, that is, the competition is equally fierce and cruel. After reading too many boss news and media reports, they are still unwilling to develop in this direction. Once you don't choose employment after graduation, you have to choose to take the postgraduate entrance examination or take the civil service examination, but these are extraordinary difficulties!
Faced with the pressure of employment, Su Zhen and many students around her "reluctantly" chose to take the postgraduate entrance examination and continue to study for a master's degree. But when you think about it carefully, compared with undergraduates and doctoral students, master students obviously present an embarrassing situation of being too high and too low. Moreover, the number of female graduate students is increasing, the scale of highly educated and older women is expanding, and the group of female graduate students in liberal arts is emerging day by day. At present, some employers in society hold an unwelcome attitude towards married or about to get married women of childbearing age, either explicitly or implicitly. The age of female graduate students in liberal arts is at a critical stage of employment, love and marriage. They are unwilling to engage in risky and pioneering occupations, but will focus on relatively stable and relaxed industries. Female graduate students in liberal arts still face the old problem of finding a job.
The helplessness of female students in finance and insurance department
Zhang Na did well in high school, and her mother often praised her daughter's outstanding performance in the community. In college, Zhang Na majored in finance and insurance. She won the first prize twice and the second prize once on the academic scholarship alone, and she is also a flower in the class where boys compete. With her mother's constant praise, Zhang Na had to try her best to find a decent job. The dream of a big city, a good company and a high salary virtually limits her employment space.
Zhang Na's love life may not be as expected. After months of groping, Zhang Na, with a thick stack of resumes, failed to find a decent job, which was really frustrating. Near graduation, the school urged to move out of the dormitory, so it simply signed a contract with an insurance company in the city and tried it for half a year. My mother loves face and refuses to tell her daughter's "experience" in front of her neighbors. Recently, she began to post the latest news among her friends, saying: My daughter works in the municipal party committee. Actually, it's just that my daughter's insurance company is next door to the municipal party Committee.
No wonder it is difficult for Zhang Na to find a job. It is common for liberal arts students to hit a wall repeatedly in the process of employment, because employers have little rigid demand for liberal arts students. For example, Chinese language and literature, journalism, government agencies, schools, enterprises and media advertisements are all widely used majors, but these majors also have the largest number of students, which means that the employment competition will be more intense. In addition, there are unprofessional shortcomings. If you compete with other people with strong compound ability at the same time, you will often be at a disadvantage.
Is it really harder for liberal arts students to find a job than for science students? Are girls not as good as boys in employment? According to a survey report of Fudan University, nearly half of female graduate students in liberal arts think that they are at a disadvantage in the competition with boys, which is rooted in the expansion of graduate students and the limitations of liberal arts majors themselves.
The severe social reality has brought pressure to the employment of liberal arts girls, making them at a disadvantage in the competition. However, "all roads lead to Rome", liberal arts girls must not lose confidence in the employment force, but should actively find employment by means of vocational guidance, alumni help, employment skills, image etiquette, practical ability training and other methods, regain their self-confidence and successfully find employment.
