Chen Dao (? -230), the word uncle, Runan (now Pingyu, Henan Province) was a trainer. After Liu Bei entered Yuzhou (A.D. 196), he followed him everywhere until he died in the eighth year of Jianxing, and served as the governor of Yong 'an. Because of the needs of his career, Chen was deliberately "frozen" after taking refuge in Liu Bei. Neither enemies nor colleagues can know his real age, family background, parents and relatives. In order to completely destroy Liu Bei, Cao Cao sent secret agents to carry out large-scale assassination, but every time he was completely defeated by the "cold storage" general, thus saving Liu Bei from danger and turning the corner. Later, Cao Cao and Sun Quan made some interest transactions one after another, and gradually realized the existence of "invisible people" around Liu Bei.
Cao Cao and Sun Quan Group racked their brains to trace Chen's identity many times. However, at that time, Liu Bei imposed a blockade policy on director Chen's identity, which not only confused the enemy, but also carried out strict internal protection work. Except for Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang and other important figures, almost no one knows the true identity of Director Chen. As a result, many rumors began to spread among the people, and it was almost unbelievable to interpret Chen's deeds. These Jianghu rumors, which were close to myth, were later attached to another great warrior.
For the top secret "cold storage" of Chen Zhi's identity, we can read some clues from the History of the Three Kingdoms written by Chen Shou, an old minister of Shu and Han Dynasties. This expensive commander-in-chief of the Central Army is not biographized in this book. During his twenty-six years with Liu Bei, there was no information about him, and Chen Zhi was completely shaped as a "hero behind the scenes". Of course, Chen Shou may have noticed that there was no special biography for Chen Dao, and his explanation for this matter was that Chen Dao's deeds could not be verified. In fact, this is just Chen Shou's grandiose excuse. People can't believe that an open commander-in-chief of the Central Army, like turning into air, has only left his own name in the world and is hard to find. Of course, even without the rich colors of history books, Chen Dao's literary and political achievements could not be buried. As we all know, Liu Bei's life was extremely bumpy, and he was often killed in wars such as Changban, Jingnan, Yizhou and Xiaoting. In the battle of Nagsaka, Liu Bei lost his wife and children, and only one person fled for his life. As the commander-in-chief of Liu Bei Bai, Director Chen shoulders the heavy responsibility of defending Liu Bei and will definitely fight to the death.
Director Chen's top secret identity and deeds make him mysterious, but his mystery is not only because of his almost "blank" life resume, but what is more puzzling is that as the commander-in-chief of Liu Bei's own army, he has risked his life to save Liu Bei many times. After Liu Bei left Cao Cao, Chen Dao won many battles and victories. Even in the face of failure, he remained calm and saved the day. But the highest official position he held during Liu Bei's period was only to protect the army. So what medicine is sold in Liu Bei's gourd? Chen holds the most elite troops of Liu Bei Group, but he doesn't hold important positions and doesn't appear in public. This is actually another way for Liu Bei to "refrigerate" him. The generals who defend the Fuhrer don't need to hold important positions at all, so as not to attract attention. Chen Zhi is the most trusted person of the Fuehrer, and he has the ace teacher of Liu Bei Group. Although his official position is small, it seems insignificant on the surface. But when Liu Bei went south to vote for Liu Biao, he was already the third person in Liu Bei Group after Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.
After Liu Bei's death, Chen quickly became the second person in the group after Zhao Yun. His identity gradually changed from a top secret figure to a semi-public local official. At that time, there were four military regions in Shuhan, namely Hanzhong, Jiangzhou, Yong 'an and Dongxiang, among which Hanzhong was at the junction with Wei, and Wei Yan was the commander in chief. Yong 'an (formerly Baidi City, renamed Yong 'an after Liu Bei was defeated in Baidi City) borders Wu. At this time, Chen was appointed as the commander-in-chief of Yong 'an, the general of the Western Expedition, and sealed the pavilion. Under his command, he was in charge of the ace army for 26 years-White Matter.
After Chen was in power, the relationship between Wu and Shu faced a new test, and the court of Shu and Han was cautious about the commander-in-chief of Yong 'an, a border town between the two countries. The appointment of Director Chen not only reflects the importance attached by Han Shu Group to Director Chen, but also reflects the sufficient deterrent power of Director Chen's "mysterious" aura. In the battle of Xiaoting, there was no general who directly participated in the war around Liu Bei, only the commander Chen was with him. Chen followed Liu Bei for several months to attack Wu. Although the result is lamentable, it makes Chen the only important general in the Shu-Han camp who has rich experience in fighting Wu and can get away with it. Liu Bei's death ended Chen Dao's important mission as the head of white defense, but at this time he was given a new historical task, that is, to lead the dead white defense of the first emperor to continue to consolidate the border defense between Shu and Han, and to guard against the attack of Soochow at any time. Because of Chen's "mystifying", the group couldn't understand the purpose of sending the former emperor to lead. At that time, Zhuge Liang publicly stated in a letter to his eldest brother Zhu Gejin: "When I arrived in the viceroy, the first emperor took charge of Baizhi and went to the Western Expedition to join the army." (Zhuge Liang set). And Koch's intention in writing this letter is nothing more than announcing to Wu Dong that Chen Dao, as the first emperor of Liu Bei, is commanding the most elite troops of Shu Han to guard Yongan at this time. This not only shocked Wu Dong, but also sent a signal of peace to Wu Dong-Shu Han had no intention of going to war with Wu Dong, because Chen Zhi would certainly carry out the testamentary edict of the first emperor without hesitation.
In the history of Shu and Han dynasties, there were three elite troops, one was Zhuge Liang's flying army, the other was the Xiliang cavalry under the command of Ma Chao, and the other was the white force of the Central Army defending Liu Bei. According to historical records, after Liu Bei established Bai Yi in Yuzhou, Chen came here to command the army for 34 years. According to some unofficial history records, after Liu Bei's Xiao Pavilion was defeated, Chen arrived and led hundreds of white troops to repel the attack of tens of thousands of pursuers, which won enough time for Liu Bei to defeat Baidicheng. How strong the fighting capacity of the White Pagoda is, people now can't know. However, Bai Ming was able to defend the Fuehrer safely for more than 20 years, which made people feel even more mysterious.
Future generations' speculation about Director Chen's "mysterious identity" is not only because of Han Shu Group's strategic packaging for him, but also because of his mysterious relationship with Changshan Zhao Zilong. Many legends about Chen Dao were processed by Luo Guanzhong as early as the Ming Dynasty, and all of them were listed on Zhao Yun. However, Zhao Yun mainly served as a civil servant in Liu Beishi. How did he save Liu Bei from danger again and again? Some people say that Zhao Yun in Romance of the Three Kingdoms is actually director Chen. Historically, they have similar personality characteristics and the same combat experience. Almost all of them were "small officials" in Liu Bei's position. When Yang commented on the famous ministers in Shu, he once said: "South is heavy, West is loyal, and you choose scholars, and you will be fierce." The reflection, Shu Shu and Yang Chuan. This is the first time in history that someone tied them together, which later became the basic feature of the image of Changshan Zhao Zilong in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
So, what is the relationship between Chen and Zhao Yun? They participated in important battles such as the Battle of Nagano, the Battle of Battle of Red Cliffs, the Battle of Yizhou and the Battle of Hanzhong, but there is no record of Chen in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, leaving readers with a blank sheet of paper to imagine. Their status in Liu Bei's era was similar, but in The Romance, Zhao Yun was portrayed as a warrior, so readers will naturally wonder if Chen Zhi was so brave. Although Zhao Yun's reputation is widely spread, he is not a white leader after all. Although director Chen is not famous, he is a real white matter and will always accompany Liu Bei. In the romance, Zhao Yun rode the savior alone many times and was appraised as a "brave man" by Cao Cao. But Chen has been the boss of Bai Yi for a long time, but there is no story of the savior. There is only one possibility, that is, Zhao Yun took the credit of Director Chen and took many heroic deeds of Director Chen as his own.
Fortunately, modern historians generally believe that a considerable part of Luo Guanzhong's description of Zhao Yun in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms was taken from the deeds of Chen Dao. It should be said that the image of Zhao Yun, which is widely circulated among the people today, is actually the historical image of Chen Dao and Zhao Yun combined into one. With the continuous erosion of the long river of history, Chen realized that this "mysterious" hero of the Three Kingdoms will gradually become clear and let the world personally feel that "Uncle is brave".
