A famous militarist and national hero in Vietnamese history, he is the third brother of the second generation emperor Ruan Shi (Ruan Yue, Ruan Lu,) of Xishan Dynasty. His real name is Hu, and he is the same clan as the emperor Hu of Vietnam. His fourth ancestor, Hu Pikang, originally lived in Xingyuan County, Vaan State, which was influenced by Zheng Zhu in northern Vietnam. During the war between Zheng Zhu and Ruanzhu in Guangnan Prefecture, he was captured by Guangnan Army and settled in Xishan City, Guiren Prefecture for reclamation. Because Hu Pikang was born in a scholarly family, he was appointed as the "West Mountain Castellan" by the prince when he arrived at his father Hu Shi, and moved to Fule Village, Suiyuan County. According to the textual research of scholars Guo Zhenduo and Zhang Xiaomei, Nguy?n Hu?'s predecessor inherited the position of Xishan stockade owner. Therefore, the Ruan brothers are not ordinary peasant families, but a "well-off family of lower feudal lords" in Xishan City.
