The Republican Party of the United States is one of the two major political parties that take turns to govern in the United States. Its predecessor was the Democratic Republican Party founded in 1792. 1825, the Democratic Republican Party split, and one of them formed the National Republican Party. 1834 was renamed the Whig Party. 1In July, 854, the Whig Party joined forces with the Northern Democratic Party and other anti-slavery factions to form the Republican Party, and its values were based on "individual freedom" and "national unity". In contemporary politics, the Republican Party is regarded as social conservatism (including safeguarding "family values"), economic classical liberalism (including supporting "conservative fiscal policy") and a right-wing party with a tough attitude on foreign affairs and national defense issues.
