Du Kang is the "ancestor of brewing" in ancient legends of China. There are many legends among the people, among which Shuo Wen Jie Zi in Han Dynasty recorded that Du Kang began to make wine. Also known as Shao Kang, the monarch of Xia Dynasty.
Because of Du Kangshan's wine-making, later generations regarded Du Kang as Dionysus, and the wine-making circles regarded Du Kang as their ancestor. Ying Shao Shi Shu quoted by Kong: "Du Kang made wine", and later generations borrowed "Du Kang" to refer to wine.
The Records of Baishui County compiled in the 17th year of Qing Qianlong (1752) records: "Han, Du Kang, whose name is Zhongning, is said to be from Kangjiawei County, and he is good at making wine." Weikang Jiawei Village is located in the west of Baishui County, seven or eight miles away. At the eastern end of the village, there is a long ditch formed by the impact of Luoshui for many years, which is called "Du Kang ditch" by local people. At the source of the ditch, there is a spring named "Dukangquan". It is said that Du Kang is famous for making wine from this spring. The sketch of the county annals also shows the location of Du Kang's tomb. Du Kang Temple was built next to the mausoleum. Every year on the 21st day of the first month, villagers come here to pay homage.
China's culture is always rich and substantial. When the founder of wine is still inconclusive, people are still making all kinds of strange guesses with relish. In addition to the above influential winemaking theories, there are folk sayings of Yao Di winemaking and Huangdi winemaking. "Du Kang doesn't know who is in the world," said Gao Cheng, a poet in the Song Dynasty, in The Origin of Everything. According to archaeological and historical documents, there were wine vessels in Luoyang in the Xia Dynasty, and there was also a legend of "wine pond meat forest" in Chao Ge, the capital of Shang Dynasty (now Qixian County, Henan Province). In the Zhou Dynasty, the rulers believed that there were many reasons for the demise of Yin Shang, and excessive drinking was an important one. The Duke of Zhou also promulgated the "Liquor Order", aiming at establishing and promoting a good wine style. Thus, Du Kang, as the "ancestor of wine", lived no later than the Three Dynasties.
