In July of the third year of Hongwu (1370), Zhu Yuanzhang promoted yang xian to Zuo Cheng, who was in charge of Zhongshu Province. As soon as Yang Xiangang had real power, he got carried away and directed his finger at his enemy, Li Shanchang. In Zhongshu Province, yang xian fought Li Shanchang and Hu all day, and his recklessness brought disaster to himself.

In the month when Zhongshu became Zuo Cheng, he committed a crime and was killed by Zhu Yuanzhang. The history books are vague about Yang Xianzhi's death, saying only that he was punished for his crime, and no one knows what crime he committed. He soon disappeared from the political arena. He mysteriously disappeared, and the inside story remains unknown hundreds of years later.
