Ma Hualong is the fifth generation of Mueller ethics (missionary) of Heron Sect of Chinese Islam, and he exercises religious rights as the chief imam. He is a respected and influential historical figure among the northwest Muslims and the local people who believe in Islam.

Ma Hualong lived in Jinjibao, Ningxia Ling area, and studied Arabic with Imam Omar of Fuqiang in Gansu and Jinye in Shandong since childhood. When he grew up, his father "dressed up" (a Hui student, graduated from a mosque) became an imam, and in the twenty-ninth year of Daoguang (1849), he became the fifth generation successor of Mueller's ethics. With his efforts, He Zhe's forbearance reached the second peak since Ma Mingxin.
