Zhang Side was born in a poor peasant family in Yilong County, Sichuan Province. 1933 12 joined the red army and soon joined the communist youth league. June 1937 Joined China. He used to be the monitor of the Central Guard Corps and the guardian of Mao Zedong. In a battle against the siege of the Sixth Route Army, he was injured twice in his right leg and still suffers from severe pain. He rushed into the enemy's defense line and seized two enemy machine guns. On the way to the Long March, he crossed the inaccessible snow-capped mountains and grasslands twice and experienced hardships. 1On September 5th, 944, when he led soldiers to perform charcoal burning task in Ansai County, northern Shaanxi, the cave that was about to be dug suddenly collapsed. He struggled to push his comrades out of the cave, but he was buried in the cave. He was only 29 when he died.

In memory of Zhang Side, the Central Committee and the Central Guard Corps held a memorial service for Zhang Side in the playground of Xiazaoyuangou, Fenghuang Mountain, Yan 'an. Mao Zedong attended the memorial service, personally wrote a eulogy of "Salute to Comrade Zhang Side who sacrificed for the people's interests" and delivered a speech of "Serving the People", which highly praised Zhang Side's ideological realm and revolutionary spirit of serving the people comprehensively and thoroughly.

To tell the truth, I only know Lei Feng, but I think he is a brave and fearless soldier. Even though he has been promoted and sublimated, what is really worth learning is his spirit, which is the admirable character. I think this is a model spirit worth learning.
