The first part is a cover letter.
Nowadays, most employers point out that if there is no cover letter, they will never read the resume. Therefore, a cover letter is necessary. However, the cover letter does not simply restate your resume, but politely and clearly highlights your goals and requirements, prompting readers to be interested in reading your resume and recommendation letter.
The purpose and benefits of the enclosed letter are:
1 can ensure that your resume reaches the correct reader's desktop. If there is no recipient's name in the job advertisement, I suggest calling to ask the name of the person who will handle the job application (this shows your sincerity and professionalism and leaves a deep impression on the employer). If not, follow the following principles: small enterprise-managing director, medium-sized enterprise-department/department head, large enterprise-staff or human resources department.
2. convince the recipient to read your resume
3. clearly indicate which specific position you are interested in.
Explain why you are interested in this position and why you think you are qualified for it.
5. mention one or two points in your resume and respond to the advertisement.
Therefore, a cover letter can't guarantee you to find a job, but if you do well, it can bring you an interview opportunity, or at least let the employer open your resume.
Then, what should a cover letter include, at least the following points.
1, the name, position and address of the recipient given in the job advertisement.
2. Where did you learn about the position you are interested in (probably recommended by a friend)?
3. Use three or four bullets (such as the Word toolbar) to list why you are qualified for this position and respond to the requirements of the job advertisement.
Show interest in the interview and discuss the application.
5. Check spelling and grammar mistakes
6. Never raise salary, or skills or requirements that employers want or may want but you can't meet.
7. Unless handwriting is indicated, it should be printed by typewriter or word processing software. But the personal signature must be handwritten (remember this)
8. Different applications should use different cover letters, such as different contents, emphases and styles.
9. Note that the cover letter should be as simple as possible, unless there are special circumstances, it should be completed with a piece of paper.
Here is an example of actual combat:
Nowadays, British writing is popular, with all paragraphs aligned to the left and blank lines. In addition, the sender information in the old formal writing method is placed in the upper right corner)
Your address (apply rules from small to large)
your phone number
Your email address (if there is not enough space in this part, you can consider the correct type and application text box)
(Blank line)
Write the date (you can use the format of sun, moon and year, such as April 2, 2004, without commas, but don't use the abbreviation of month)
(Blank line)
Name of employer
title
department
company
address
(Blank line)
Reference number (if mentioned in the job advertisement)
(Blank line)
Dear sir or madam/dear sir or madam
(Blank line)
1st paragraph (the first paragraph) explains the reason for your writing; Determine the position and your source of information. Use a series of phrases to summarize your best qualifications for this position.
(For example, I hope to apply for the position of … advertised, and my … is my strongest …)
(Blank line)
The second paragraph outlines your strongest qualifications in more detail and shows how they meet the job requirements. Provide as much evidence of your relevant work, extra current, academic experience and procedures as possible. Please refer to the enclosed resume. (Bulleted form can be applied).
(For example, I attach the completed application form, my personal information form, etc .../See the attached resume and certificate for details .../I am currently employed by .../I will complete my school or university studies in ...)
(Blank line)
The third paragraph (third paragraph) is optional. Let employees believe that you have the personal qualifications and motivation to succeed. Connect your interests and qualifications with your knowledge of the company.
The fourth paragraph (the fourth paragraph) requires an interview and explains how and when I can contact you. I suggest you call at a specific time to discuss your interest. Check the possibilities. Thank you for your consideration.
For example, I hope to have the opportunity to discuss this position further in the interview.
(Blank line)
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration. )
(One or three lines are empty)
You are sincere (if the employer has been named)
or
Yours faithfully
Handwritten signature (handwritten signature. Leave three or four blank lines when typesetting)
Type your full name.
(Blank line)
Attached to the letter (attachment. Then indicate that resume (CV) and recommendation letter (reference) are attached. (such as Encl. Resume, references).
(End)
Note: the recipient's name and address on the envelope should be on the right side of the middle of the front, and the writer's name and address should be on the upper left corner of the front or back of the envelope.
Part II Resume
First of all, the general suggestions are:
Maybe you can get some templates for writing your resume from the online or school employment guidance, but employers are usually not interested in the same cover letter. Therefore, don't copy some standard templates. Your resume should be your own and personalized, but it is different from personalization.
First of all, your resume should be typed with word processing software and printed with a good quality printer. Be careful not to use too many different fonts and sizes, and don't use other colors. However, it is suggested that several important keywords be marked in bold or underlined, so that employers can find the words they want to see.
Secondly, don't forget to use the "spelling and grammar" tool to check spelling and grammar errors on the computer, or let other friends with good English check them.
In addition, it is strongly recommended to use "bullets" or "numbers" in the Word toolbar. Think about it. An employer may have to read 100 resumes in half an hour, and there are only two things in all resumes: consideration or trash can. Therefore, your resume must be designed to read quickly, short and pithy, and can arouse readers' interest.
Similarly, according to different employers and requirements, it is easy to make some minor and necessary changes to your resume.
Finally, after writing the draft, show it to your teacher, family or friends and ask them how to change it if it is assumed to be an employer. Read it several times and revise it with red pen to make your resume more concise, readable and easy to understand.
Second, before writing.
Sit down and read carefully the advertisements for the jobs you want to apply for, even if they don't have advertisements, you can try. List their requirements and compare their skills, education and work experience. Most of the time, the information given in the job advertisement is not enough. In addition to imagining some possible needs from their perspective, you must also know something about the relevant employers and/or their companies, such as company structure, products, success stories and development plans. The main search channels are: Internet, official documents, publicity materials, reports, newspaper reports, etc.
Third, writing style.
There are basically two kinds. The first one is arranged in chronological order, and all the information is contained under different headings, such as education level and work experience. This method is easier to start. The second type is called skill type, which lists titles according to skill requirements, and all personal information is listed under the corresponding titles. This is more difficult.
Fourth, resume length and paper format.
Page 65438 +0-2. Don't exceed three A4 sheets (except for special posts), because the employer has no patience and time to see your performance. Note that in most cases, formal white paper and black fonts are used, but some situations can be changed. For example, if you apply for TV programs or image design, you can consider using colored paper and designing it skillfully.
Fifth, components
1, personal details
Including name (it is recommended to add surname after English name as contact person and address), telephone number, email address, contact address (because it is already included in envelopes and cover letters, you can consider not listing it), birthday (because of different cultures, it is usually unnecessary to list it), gender (if you use English name, it is unnecessary to list it) and personal website (if you think it is done well). There is no need to list nationality (it is not necessary if you are in China, and it will reduce interview opportunities if you are abroad)
2. Education (academic qualifications)
It mainly lists the learning situation of universities or colleges. Subjects studied, degrees obtained or graduated, courses related to job hunting studied every year, related projects (topics) participated and papers (dissertations/dissertations) written. In addition, if you get scholarships or other awards, you may wish to list them.
Simply list the graduation situation of high school, and there is no need to list the academic qualifications far away from high school.
It is suggested to list them from near to far.
3. WORK EXpERIENCES
List your recent work experience. Give the name of your employer, your own position and, very importantly, your achievements and contributions in your work. If you have no outstanding performance, you can list your functions, such as how many customers you have received, how many projects you have completed, and how many company transactions you have assisted.
In addition, as long as it is related to the position you are applying for, even if it is a short-term part-time job, you may wish to list it.
4, SKILLS (skills)
Including language ability, computer level and experience, whether you have a driver's license, etc.
5. Personal interests (interests/additional current activities)
Briefly list some of your personal hobbies, such as sports (it would be better if you have the same hobbies as your employer), group activities, voluntary work, etc. Especially if you are the leader of these activities. Be careful to be concise. For example, if you used to be the captain of a basketball team, employers are not interested in knowing when you took office, how many games you played, how many games you won and so on. If they are interested in these, they will ask you during the interview.
This part can let employers know about your team cooperation and positive social personality from the side.
6. Letter of recommendation and/or letter of recommendation (referrer/recommender)
Usually two names are listed, one from the university and the other from any working environment (full-time/part-time/volunteer). If not, you can list your elders and friends who know you very well. Then give their location, work phone number and night phone number (their consent must be obtained in advance).
7. Optional extras.
You can use a personal profile/goal statement at the beginning to summarize your abilities, qualifications, hopes and plans in two or three sentences. This can arouse the interest of employers in reading.
In addition, you can add a photo of yourself (scanned or pasted in a document) to your resume. But the photos must be positive, well-taken, and "vivid" (don't look sick, imprisoned, evil or stuffy).
In addition, I almost forgot to add your work goal in front, usually the position listed in the job advertisement.
Below, let's give a simple practical example.
Divided into seven blocks, marked with left-aligned titles.
Personal Details (Part I)
Including your name, (nationality, date of birth), address, (marital status), telephone number and email address. Also explain whether you are a driver and how you are going to move.
Suggestion: List your name, address, phone number and email address in three rows in this section, and center these three rows. take for example
Tony Bao (middle)
Shanghai Beijing Road 10 1 (Center)
(020) 8434 8888, tony@hotmail.com (Center)
(The following six headings are aligned to the left. If bullets or numbers are applied to the following contents, they will be indented automatically to facilitate reading and searching for keywords. )
Work objectives (block 2)
Sales/Manager/Technician/Operator/Tutor/…
Education/qualifications (block 3) (it is recommended to list them in chronological order from near to far with "bullets and/or numbers" or tables)
Including a degree or related diploma and any special training in computer skills.
l Dec 1996? In June 2002, I was awarded …
1. 1 year: certification … scholarship …
2. The second year: …
3. The third year: … obtained the certificate of 1. Two CCT… ...
September 2002 1995 to June …
…
Work experience (fourth, very important) (it is recommended to use "bullets and/or numbers" or tables to list them in chronological order from near to far. Be careful not to have too much time gap)
List your recent work first, and remember not to leave any blank. Explain in detail what you did, what skills/techniques you used, the dates when you started and finished, how much money you earned and the reason why you left. Don't criticize former employers, even if they deserve criticism!
From September 2002 to March 2004, … Co., Ltd. managed/handled/…
June 2002 1 day (summer vacation), ... The position/leadership of Limited Company ...
From February 5, 2002 to May 2002, I received training in …
March 2000 -20061October 5438+0… Volunteer …
Skills (fifth and most important) (consider highlighting keywords in bold or underlined)
For example:
Advanced skills in l…
L Excellent …&; Customer service skills
Excellent time management, organization and communication skills.
L the ability to provide telephone support for ...
Additional current activities/interests (item 6)
Describe your interests. It's a good idea to provide examples to prove qualities that employers may find attractive.
For example, the captain of ... the leader of ...
Referee/reference (column 7)
Provide details of two referees, usually the last two employers.
1, manager of tom smith co., ltd. Tel: 888 8888 (daytime), or 999 9999 (evening) E-mail :Admin@sales.smith.com.
Ken Weaver, the head tutor of the Department of ... at Oxford University. ... University ... Ken@bjuniversity.govt.cn.
Note: The phone number and email address given should be visible from the company or school.
Sixth, the cover letter (see the first part above).
Seventh, the application form.
For some jobs, the employer will send you the relevant application form first. At this time, you still need to write a cover letter and your resume (unless the employer says it is unnecessary).
Note that filling in the form is as clean and easy to read as writing CV. Use a black pen or ballpoint pen (easy to copy).
Recommendation: Write your answers on another piece of paper, or copy the form first, make corrections on the copy, and finally copy it to the original.
When you are finished, make a copy and keep it for the interview.
Note: If possible, keep all the sent application letters, application forms and resumes, as well as the records of telephone inquiries and the names of the people you asked, or keep them on the computer.
Eighth, the interview.
It is also important to learn how to grasp the interview opportunity. You can find some common interview questions from the library or online, and then ask your teachers, classmates or friends to practice with you.
In a real interview, you should not only be positive and confident (but not too confident), but also dress appropriately and behave appropriately. The interview process should be moderate, clear and straightforward. The suggestion of eye contact with the examiner is between 60% and 85%.
If you are rejected, a well-meaning employer will usually review the interview process and tell you how to improve your resume and interview skills. Otherwise, you can humbly ask him/her where he/she needs to improve, so as to learn lessons in the future. Perhaps, employers will continue to pay attention to you. Therefore, if you treat failure in a negative way, you will leave a bad impression on your employer. Not only will there be no chance in the future, but you will never learn from it and meet the next challenge.
Part III Recommendation Letter
It is best to send a formal letter (with a letterhead) from the former company and/or graduate school. The existence and quality of letters of recommendation depend on your usual performance and social skills, because teachers, schools and companies can't write letters of recommendation to every student or employee, and they can't all write so well. If not, please find an elder who knows you well. But be careful not to cheat or make it up out of thin air.
The fourth part is a copy of the major awards or achievements.
It would be very helpful if there were. But pay attention to these awards and achievements must be related to the type of work you apply for, otherwise it will be a waste.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the above methods of reading newspapers and sending cover letters, there is also the most direct and proven effective way to apply for a job, that is, going to the door directly. But it will make you lose a lot of face.
Aim at the company you want to enter, perhaps make a list of company addresses, prepare your resume, recommendation letter and cover letter, and knock on the door one by one. Go directly to the reception desk, indicating that you want to find a job and ask to see the manager. For some formal companies, if the manager is present, you will be given 2-5 minutes, and then you must accurately grasp your short time and language skills, tell your general ideas, and ask for your resume, recommendation letter and cover letter. If the manager is not in, the receptionist will ask you to fill out a form and then go back and wait for news.
According to the laws of some countries, companies and employers have no right to refuse the request of job seekers to fill in job application forms, regardless of whether the company has published job advertisements or not. Employers are even asked to give job seekers an answer in the form of letters or emails.
Don't think you will succeed. You must constantly hit a nail, constantly accept failure, and then exercise from failure. You will learn how to communicate with the staff at the reception desk of the company and how to make a good impression on him in a short conversation with the manager.
In this way, you may experience 100 failures, but you are likely to succeed at 10 1. Remember, don't give up.
Finally, an excellent cover letter and an excellent resume are not a guarantee of success, but they are a very important first step towards success, especially worth doing the best.
