Xie Zhigang, Mayor of Hechi City, introduced that the mulberry garden area in Hechi City has grown from more than 4,600 hectares in 2000 to 410.3 million hectares in 2007; The cocoon output increased from 654.38 200,000 in 2000 to 654.38 536,000 in 2007, accounting for one third of the cocoon output in Guangxi and about 8% of the whole country. In 2007, the average cocoon yield per mu of mulberry in the city reached 123.87 kg, which was more than twice the national average. Yi Hui, president of China Silk Association, said that the cocoon production in Hechi City accounts for about one third of that in Guangxi, which has contributed to the stable development of sericulture in China.
