In 688, Xue Pan, the eldest brother, participated in the rebellion of Li Chong, the imperial clan of the Tang Dynasty. Wu Zetian ordered the death of Xue Pan and implicated Xue Shao. Xue Shao was born in a noble family. His mother was sixteen princess Chengyang of Emperor Taizong, and his father was the son of Wei and Xue Huaiyu. Mother princess Chengyang is the beloved daughter of Emperor Taizong. Before Princess Chengyang married Xue Kui, Emperor Taizong specially ordered her daughter to be divined.
