Why is Anqing also called Yicheng?
Anqing has a long history. The Neolithic sites, such as Xuejiagang in the buried hill and Zhangsidun in the suburb, have witnessed that the ancestors of Anqing have thrived in this beautiful and rich land since ancient times. Guo Pu, a poet in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, said that "this place is a good city", so posthumous title is a "Yicheng". In the Southern Song Dynasty, Anqing Army was established in Shaoxing, named "Anqing". Anqing City was founded in Jiading for ten years (A.D. 12 17). From the 25th year of Qing Qianlong (A.D. 1760) to the 26th year of the Republic of China (A.D. 1937), it was the capital of Anhui Province and the political, economic and cultural center of Anhui Province. Anhui is a combination of "Anqing" and "Huizhou". Because Anqing has an Anhui mountain, surrounded by Anhui rivers, and there was an Anhui country here in the Spring and Autumn Period, Anhui is called "Anhui" for short. So people often say that Anqing is the source of Anhui.
